I found this thread super refreshing compared to a lot of the clickbaity threads I see from "SEO Experts".
I'll try applying some of these ideas to my apps. I'll report back in a few months if I see any progress!

And you're right, you don't need all the expensive tools to achieve 80% of SEO results.
I'd recommend to use Google's autocomplete feature to get keyword ideas. And check if Quora or other forums with weaker content rank high.
If you create high-quality posts on those topics it'll do well.
Probably achieving 80% of the SEO results come from 20% of the effort.
And of course, persistence is key — consistently publish top-notch content, and you'll eventually see great traffic numbers.

SEO is about to dramatically change. with the rise of AI content, I'm expecting Google's next algorithm update to weigh much heavier in benefit of trusted brands, quality backlinks, highest quality content and reduce rankings for sites whose primary strategy has been achieving topical authority.
I wonder what will happen. I saw a really interesting video yesterday about how Google seems to be reacting to AI content. It sounds like they just care about the quality of the content regardless of whether it was assisted by an AI or not.
Some companies are even clearly putting captions like
