It is well known that one of the hardest things for a SaaS founder is defining the right pricing strategy for the service. And I am definitely not the exception that proves the rule.
I left it for last, but then I had to make a decision to allow ChartBear to exit the beta (which happened a few days ago 🚀 ).
I started by writing down a few monthly plans without even thinking too much about it because, you know, the subscription-based model seems to be the right strategy by default as it's easy to manage, to communicate, and most importantly it generates predictable and stable revenues.
But then I thought about it for a moment (better late than never), and I tried to put myself in the shoes of the buyer personas I'm trying to attract.
I quickly realized that I'd be annoyed to pay a monthly fee for a service I could potentially use heavily one month and put on hold the following ones.
Given said that I decided to adopt a credit-based strategy. The customers can still save money because the larger the credit pack they buy, the lower the price per credit they get. What I like the most about this strategy is that it doesn't require a long-term commitment and I think it might reduce the discomfort associated with paying.
I'm pretty curious about your opinion since I'm not sure if this could be the right choice or not. What do you think?
Thank you in advance!
