Is there a better way to use Twitter?
Personally, I'm not really a fan of using Twitter (a bit too ADD for me), but I would still like to use it for project updates and and getting a little more exposure to a different community.
I was considering using a simple, post-only Twitter client but I haven't found one yet.
Maybe the answer is that I shouldn't be using it this way in the first place. Or that suffering through all the junk on Twitter is simply the price I need to pay, for exposure on the platform.
Not sure.
What are you thoughts and strategy for using Twitter?
An alternative, though not necessarily better, would be to use Lists.
Instead of following accounts, group them into categories in your Lists. Then, you can set the Home section to display "Latest Tweets", which will only show your own tweets (or retweets), and ads.
This way, you'll have lesser distraction when opening up Twitter, but still able to find and engage with contents posted by others when you have the intention (by visiting the Lists).
Yup, I'm already using Lists to organize who I follow and pay attention to and it makes a huge difference in my feed.
For those who aren't using Twitter lists, they're definitely worth the time to get them set up.
I don't it for Twitter yet because I've just started using it, but what to do for Instagram is that I have a recreated a feed on a Google Sheet that only shows posts from #hashtags & users that I want to interact with. This helps me avoid using the app, which is extremely distracting for me.
Maybe that using a similar approach with Twitter might help you ! I know that with Integromat & Google Sheets, you can post Tweets without even having to go on the twitter app/website.

yes, I mean those apps are designed to keep us scrolling endlessly, I think that find them distracting is complely normal !
I've been stepping away from Twitter the past few weeks and used Tweetdeck to see certain lists and be able to post and comment. It has made me a lot more productive!
Saying you want to only post and not actually engage is just like screaming into a void.
You'll be like a crazy guy on a street corner shouting about some conspiracy theory. Most people won't see you. Some will notice but walk by awkwardly and try not to get your attention.
tldr; it's a probably a waste of time if you're not going to really try to engage an audience.
It's not that I don't want to engage, its that I find engaging in the Twitter world difficult and distracting because of how the platform is setup.
I'm actually looking for ways to engage better with Twitter audiences, but without all the negative side effects of using Twitter itself.
Hmm. Why not find a platform that you prefer? It's not like Twitter is the only place you can build an audience.. perhaps there are other online platforms that better suit your style.
I have started building something that aims to be the solution to this problem.
I've noticed that Twitter is a pain point for many people (it used to be for me too) so I wrote a bunch of algorithms to post for me and manage followers.
The tweets themselves are handwritten, the images and hashtags manually chosen but everything else is automated through the Twitter API.
I've been running it in-house for a while now on several accounts for clients and its been a hit so I have just started building it as its own service. Domain is only up today but I expect to get things rolling pretty quickly from here.

I use twitter intensively for years now, it's all about knowing what is your audience and creating value to them
And, small tip: use DMs all the time, they create strong relationship with your audience.

I agree its easy to post if you stay focused on doing just that.
But once you open the app up, you're bombarded by a million different things and it's why I avoid using it in the first place.
It just feels like such a crowded space and I'm wondering if there's a better way to make use of the platform.
