The is a reason why I chose The Slice as a name for my newsletter.
About 5 years ago, I had a somewhat successful blog based around the student life of living in Cape Town, South Africa, where I would talk about, night-life, lifestyle, social events, wine studios, restaurants and just in general, cool things to do.
That was called "The Daily Portion".
I did that for close to 2 years before I sold that blog to a lifestyle magazine.
Slice>Portion
My newsletters name is a homage to my very first "indie" venture that I ever did.
Whats the story?
For both my newsletter and ebook I chose descriptive names that succintly (and hopefully clearly) convey what they're about.
Prosaic because it is a place for prose (blog posts), but also because our design values commonplace practices. However, still unsure about whether
.blogwill be seen as appropriate for a blogging platform or if we will need to move to a.comdomain.I chose melbado because it doesn't mean anything. I think it's idea #7 which finally got the traction I'm looking for. Since it's a platform where you can list your startup and collect feedback from early users I'm thinking about rebranding to something more meaningful.
Striking Digital.
When you say Striking it's Striking. You have to say Digital because it's Digital.
It's a Lead generation tool and a marketing suite btw.
Zlappo, the #1 Twitter growth tool in the market
Why?
It isn't tied to the product itself, because I always have a domain name ready to go whenever I have an idea/MVP I want to test out.
http://indiestack.co/ the stack on independent incomes that make up your full income! Focused on micro-saas.
I would like my product names to be purposeful
e.g.
hitstartup - Startup Coaching,
needgap - Problem/Need gap validation,
startuptoolchain - Curated list of startup tools.
Congratulations on the sale of "The Daily Portion" and all the best for your next venture!
Yes. My product is called Designtack. I registered the domain name in 2017, when I started it out as an agency. I was inspired and motivated. It was my "First Project". I achieved some of the goals with it.
Few months back, I haulted my plans to build it into an agency and didn't wanted to just throw the domain away. So, I built a product around the same name.
When I pick a name, I want it to be memorable, understandable, and brandable. I want to be able to own the dot-com immediately. There are a lot of bad names out there that just aren't searchable, have other people squatting on their dotcom, or don't give any indication at all as to what the product is, and I didn't want to fall into those traps.
I chose Nodewood after discarding quite a few other ideas. It wasn't even idea number one, but it's definitely eclipsed the other ideas I initially liked more. Nodewood is a SaaS starter kit, and it also sounds like a foundational material you'd use when building something. Also, you know immediately what ecosystem (Node & Javascript) it lives inside, just from the name.
Plus, it lent itself to a cute little tagline really well: "Build your next SaaS with Nodewood!"
Currently working on Initly – It's a URL redirect service, "initial" load features (init). Plus the domain init.ly was available. I'm a softy for such domains 😅
I am building Paudium. It's the first podcast-first player. I wanted to have Podium but that is taken. So the next best thing I thought was P + audio + medium = Paudium. What do you think, is it too complicated?
My goal for eventOne is is to be the one source of truth for event data. Speakers, schedules, vendors, etc.
Uclusion is a cross between "you" and "inclusion" with a dash of "conclusion".
