Is there any online market research interview website?

Hi IHs! I'm trying to understand the pain points of a specific market and want to find people in that market to interview, basically, market research. Is there any cheap, convenient website that offers this kind of service? Most websites I found are either for larger corporations or hard to use (always need to request a demo..)

A fellow indiehacker has a Saas called scoops.io. might want to check it out

Hey guys! Founder of Scoops here :) thanks for the shoutout @NestorH. Yes @indiehackee67 you can survey people and then interview them based on how they answered - and get a free 1st question too!

to @valtrem's point, a lot of these other services use MTurk - whose respondents get directly paid out for performing menial tasks. As you can imagine, that comes with a lot of bias.

When I was a product designer, I noticed that people of all income ranges actually like helping researchers - provided you ask them the right way. Scoops was built on that learning, 65% of our respondents leave additional comments without any incentivization, they just want to help. That's why we think we have a leg up, if you decide to give it a shot let me know :)

Hi Chris! This is very helpful. I have a few questions after playing around. If you don't mind answering,

        1. How your audience is chosen and why it's less biased than MTurk's?
        2. Seems like you only have survey-based research now. I'm more looking for interview-based. Any future plan to roll that out? I know you have options of running interviews after survey but that's an extra step.
        3. (this one is more like feedback) When choosing the audience pool, the options seem to be limited. There are only 5 knowledge areas available. Also, I can't get enough sample size even though my criteria isn't that strict (Software, 15-36, Male, US). And there is no option of < 50 respondents so I'm kind of stuck.

Anyway, this is probably the best I have seen so far. If I need to run surveys I will use it. Great work!

          Great questions.

          1. Audience is self-policed by researchers, they upvote/downvote respondents based on how thorough and helpful their answers are. Also, we tell respondents who you are and what you're working on, and present it in a chat format - you'd be surprised, 65% of them have left non-incentivized comments just cus they want to help. How you ask goes a long way! For more about our pros & cons you can read here: https://blog.scoops.io/scoops-data-bias-bd010a9b1e3f

          2. Yes it's an extra step, but we believe that using even just a small survey first (that you'd get back in < 1 day) just to either screen, or get a better sense of high level trends, is valuable. You could spend a week sourcing 5 interviewees, spend an hour on each, or you could ask 1 question and get results within a day and know exactly who to talk to.

I'm probably shooting myself in the foot here, but if you do want ONLY interviews there's a competitive service called userinterviews.com. Haha, probably broke every rule in the indie hacker playbook by suggesting my competitor to you :)

          1. Totally fair, I just checked, we hit 48 :( we also only show people who are active, and have been particularly helpful to try and keep your data as good as possible. I'm thinking we may introduce a 25 cohort, having even just a few opinions can definitely still help!

Thanks again for checking us out, hope we can help you down the line!

Also, quick question - why are you only interested in males? One common suggestion we make is that people target less by demographic, and more by behaviour. Since products solve problems, not people - and problems are often times agnostic of gender!

          1. 1

That was just me trying things out. Not really looking for that targeting spec :)
I'm really looking for occupation targeting, but that's not offered by your service.

    Hi Rick,

    Have a look at https://www.javelin.com/

They use Amazon Mechanical Turk under the hood.

I haven't used it personally, but I think the concept is pretty cool.

why not narrow down on these specific users/people and then reach out to them personally ?

    1. 1

Unfortunately, I don't know anyone from that space personally. That's why I need to run market research.

      1. 1

I mean you don't need to know them personally. They can be random people on facebook that you see active on groups/pages which make them a part of your target market. You can plug in the name of any social media instead of facebook there. Or if your target audience congregates in certain locations of physical places you can go to these places, walk up to them and talk to them about it.
