Hi, I'm in need of a crash course on growth hacking and marketing, from the basics. I know buzz words from here and elsewhere, like 'funnel', 'leads', 'cold email', etc., but not all the details around what defines the funnel, what are the steps to take, and in which order. My ideal solution would walk me through step by step through the lens of a fake company (or real one with case study) so I can see actionable steps on how to actually get a lead, put the lead into the funnel, etc.
Does this exist? If not, what's the closest next-best-resource you would recommend?
I went to a presentation last year by Jess Hackett from Sidekicker on growth hacking, sales funnel, etc. Here's the link you might find it helpful. https://www.dropbox.com/s/4hp50q28omaph6m/Growth Colony Event.pdf?dl=0
There seems to be a real lack of this type of course in this field. I think the people teaching take a lot of time on theory and general explanation. I am like you: I want to know how to tactically do something. The one thing I will say is people who often sell that model are usually taking advantage of folks, there seems to be no real middle ground 10.00 dollar course that does little to nothing and then the 500.00?+ dollar course that you hope is what you want.
Maybe I can change this! Thanks for your feedback.
I highly recommend reading Ryan Holiday’s book on growth hacking.
None that I know of.
How about growth hacking books?
Julian Shapiro has probably the best Growth marketing manual that you could find for free https://www.julian.com/guide/growth/intro
If you are looking to invest in something like that I would take a look into their academy https://www.demandcurve.com/, I must say it's quite expensive ($999 for 3 months), but I've found some people saying it's worth it.
Also, there's this course that I've found from his IH podcast interview, clickminded.com
DemandCurve also has a Slack that is quite useful and moderated closely.
For me, I don't really like the term growth hacking and what it has become. For me it's more about having a growth mindset. Then from my perspective trying to figure out how to grow things mindfully, sustainably and ethically. Different businesses have different goals and ways they want to do things.
One approach doesn't work for all, and 'growth hacks' often get overused and annoying after a relatively short period of time.
I think a lot of growth is about spending time and becoming aware of trends then figuring out how or if that can work for your product/users.
@rosiesherry Yep the slack group is a good way to get specific answers about different marketing approaches (Email marketing/B2B/content/Offline/etc). And you are right, the term growth hacking has been bastardized. I like the way you put it, like a scientific approach.
This was helpful, thanks. I will listen to Julian's interview on IH today!
