Every company, once it gets above half a dozen employees, needs to track holidays and other types of absence and, increasingly, working from home. The downside risk is that there are plenty of options out there, either dedicated or as part of a larger HR solution. On the upside, the market is huge - over 250,000 companies with 10 or more staff in the UK alone.
So, given the upside and downside, interested in everyone's thoughts about whether this market is worth tackling?
Thanks!
At one place where I worked, one of the modules of the HR solution the company used, allowed us to request approval from our manager to work from home or not come at all.
I'm not a company owner yet, but I think I would not pay only for this feature. For 10 ppl I would probably do a slack group to announce ppl working from home.
I agree. For small teams, the communication is really easy and for bigger teams, they would probably want a little bit more features.
But I don't have experience in HR, so who knows.
I worry this may be right. Small companies don't need it and large companies need more. Weirdly, where I currently work, which employs about 50 people, we have a system for managing time off but no HR system - that's done on a spreadsheet. HR's explanation is that $40 a month for leave management software is a reasonable price to solve a real problem, but $80-$250 a month for full-blow HR software isn't good value for money. It seems weird to me, because there seems to be a lot of time spent on basic, automatable, HR tasks.
The upside is almost a fix index, hence the buyers would be very passive. It really depends what exactly the problem you're solving and whether the problem is big enough where people would pay or switch from existing tools to another. Best @SydneyHacker
there is always room, but it depends what you uniquely bring to the table
