It took me a year to be noticed on Reddit but I finally made it!

This is it!

Guys, I'm super happy to share with you one of the biggest accomplishment I've made on my project everycars.co

A year ago, I posted here an article called "I'm this (bad) kind of maker: I only post when needed" speaking about the makers absolute need of building a community instead of thinking everybody is waiting for him and his incredible project.

We are a little more than a year after, and I finally made it!
I cracked the Reddit code 2 days ago!

I've been on reddit for 7 years, and I have a karma of 12k (if it may help?), and still the VAST majority of my posts are absolutely not noticed.
I'm trying to reach the classic car community on this social media, community which is quite wide with subreddits like r/classiccars (+100k people) or /projectscars (+200k people).

You probably know Reddit and you know how this community can punch you in the face when you self-promote your business in the wrong place...
So each time, I've tried to hide my business promotion by commenting something valuable that "could be found on my website" or inviting people in direct message to join my classic car renovators community.

None of these actions actually drove me significant results.

BUT,

Last weekend, I was in a need of content for my main website, especially in the "Renovation tutorials" section of each model page of my site : I was not in the mood of finding content by hand, one by one, for my 2500 car models...

So I made a new page renovate.everycars.co providing a list of classic car renovation tutorials on which I posted redirections to 700 videos scrapped on youtube.
I added a search by Make and Model form, and ALSO a form : in order for people to share their renovation content 😉

And I posted it on r/projectcar on reddit...

My computer has been on fire all day, this has been an absolute crazy mess : I LOVED IT!
I've seen the first upvote, the first comment, the next 50 upvotes, the next comments... And I realized this shitty page I had posted was actually addressing a major pain for these classic car renovators : the difficulty to find the right tutorial for renovating their car.

That has been a great day, I would love to have each day like that:

• 700 visitors
• 2000 pageviews
• 600 upvotes
• 50 comments
• 18 new videos added
• 2 new users on my renovators community
• 6 new members on my newsletter

When I woke up the next morning I even discovered a STRIPE notification of someone donating me $15 in order to support me 😱

Now, my next step is to analyse all the searches that have been made on this page. I need to understand what cars are people looking at and find some great tutorials to add on my website for these searched cars.

So guys, one moral of our story : Sometimes the content you are pushing is not adapted to the need of the people in front of you, try to find a different angle and it could work!
