A.K.A. Scratch your own itch. Popularized a few years ago by 37signals/Basecamp.
That's a good name for it. That's exactly how every product I've produced has started: I needed it!

Indie Hackers here want to earn money by creating something that people do want.
I like to think that building my product is a form of art. You still try to make money from it, but don't get crazy in case it doesn't work as planned.
I’d reword this to make something you find useful without worrying about others too much, at least at first. This is especially true of the alternative is building nothing at all.
I think the title could be a bit better. The article is saying that if you make something you’re really passionate about and interested in, it’s more likely to hit the mark with people.
So, making something for folks you don’t really get is probably not gonna work as well as making something you’d use or find cool yourself.
