It's okay to work on projects that don't make any money, as long as you enjoy that time.
I know I'm just a kid -- err, a young man. And I'm not rich yet. So I'm not claiming to be an expert in how to live your life or make a million dollars. But it seems to me that time spent working on projects that you enjoy is always time well spent... even if you don't make any money.
I'm not saying that it wouldn't be ideal to work on a project AND make money. That would be awesome! But I don't think everything has to be about making money. My friend's dad makes tons of money, but he doesn't seem particularly happy.
I'm a teenager, and my life is pretty good, but it's not like everything I do is as enjoyable as coding and building stuff. I'm just glad that I found something that lets me use my brain in a way that feels good.
Anyways, nobody cares what a high schooler thinks. Especially since my parents still buy all of my groceries. 🥳 What do you older, wiser folks think?

Im kind of sure that I am not very older then you - could be about same age group. Nice to see people around my same age here.
I think this is 100% true. I do some things as a teen, what are not the most enjoyable things for me...but I try not to care about it, just do it. But when it comes to own or any not fully school related projects - my first question is always: "Am I enjoying this?", if the answer is no then I try to change some things or even drop everything about this project.
A powerful thing would be when you work on a project what you enjoy but also you make money - or even the actions you have to make during the project was a part of your life before, what you were/currently enjoying.
I do agree. We are all influenced by the content we see, and more money sounds good doesn’t it?
I’ve thought about creating multiple streams of income. But why? Because other youtubers do it?
I realise that I’m quite frankly living my dream life (which isn’t very posh and not 100% freedom but material stuff is the last thing I care about & it’s nice to have a place to go to/work for some hours.)
I've known quite a few people like your friend's dad. The endless pursuit of money at the cost of your relationships and health is a bad idea. Spending time doing things you enjoy is a good idea. Making enough money to pay your bills is also a good idea.
