Through some sort of screw-up, Digital Ocean killed this guy's business and told him he had no recourse. They shut down his servers and refused him access to his own data. He spread the word on Twitter and only then got his data back. The key takeaway: back up everything on a different cloud than your site is hosted on so this can never happen to your business.
A tough lesson to learn. For business critical things, never put your eggs in one basket.
That's scary, I never used DigitalOcean but will think twice if I ever want to use it :s
I'd go a step further and say you should regularly back up to a physical device in your possession if you serve F500 companies like the author of that tweet does.
