I've been building a photo mapping app to preserve memories geographically

Hi everyone

I've been working on a side project that's grown from a simple idea into a full app.

Most of us have thousands of photos and videos scattered across our phones, but they rarely tell the whole story of a place or a trip. A single location might have dozens of photos, a few videos, and memories that were never captured by a camera at all.

So I'm building an app that lets you create memory collections and pin them to a map.

Each mapped memory can contain:

  • 📷 Photos

  • 🎥 Videos

  • ✍️ Journal entries

  • 📍 A meaningful location

Instead of endlessly scrolling through a photo gallery, you can explore a map of the places that matter to you and revisit the complete story behind each one.

The app is released on Android for free, with optional cloud backup for premium users.

I'd love some honest feedback from the Indie Hackers community:

  • Does the concept make sense straight away?

  • Is this something you'd use alongside Google Photos or Apple Photos?

  • What would make it valuable enough to become part of your routine?

This is my first consumer app after years of engineering work, so I'm learning a huge amount about product design, subscriptions, and launching an app. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

What stood out to me is that you're not really organizing photos—you’re organizing context. Most photo apps already solve storage and retrieval. The harder problem is reconnecting images to the meaning of a place or moment. The map layer feels like a subtle but important shift because it turns memory from a timeline problem into a spatial one.
