Three months ago I started logging which pages on our site got cited by AI search (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude) vs. pages with similar traditional SEO scores.
The GEO pages (Generative Engine Optimization) got cited 5-8x more often.
Three things drove it:
Answer the question in the first 100 words. AI scans for the direct answer. Bury it in paragraph 3 and you rarely get cited. Lead with it and you do.
Be the most specific source on a specific claim. "Validate a SaaS idea in 14 days under $50" beats "how to validate startup ideas" - if you're the only source making that exact claim, you get cited by default.
Get mentioned by a source AI already trusts. ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude all pull from a relatively small trusted pool. One mention inside that pool is proxy authority for everything you publish after.
I'm building a GEO Playbook out of this - 1-page checklist (free) and a full framework with templates ($29).
Testing demand before I finish it. Reply below or DM "geo" to @3voai on X and I'll send the free checklist.
