I have quite some experience with failing products. 8 out of 10 metrics are showing me Bashboard will fail. Running Lean, Sales Safari, The Mom Test and the other 20 books I've read are all telling me I don't have proof of demand. And this time around I'm not going to convince myself otherwise. I wish I was able to do marketing and not build. This time around I was at least able to find my first beta testers before building. It's something :)
So anyway I've come this far, I've fallen in love and like with partners in the past (happily married now) I'll enjoy this graceful period until it's time to pass arrives. Be it a PH launch or just a falling out.
I like finishing things. For a long time I didn't. Bashboard has brought some crazy database performance problems that I had never even dreamed of. It forced me to learn how these magical pieces of infrastructure actually work. Not magic any more. I had asked myself for months prior: I wonder how many rows is too much to aggregate for a beast like PostgreSQL. Well now I know. A million rows can already take 20 seconds with COUNT(). Surprising? I was knocked out when I found out. WTF is Postgre useless? No, you have to know how it works. One word of advice in such situations: Index only scan (haha I'm Estonian).
So I've learned a lot technically. I've also learned a lot from this community. There are some pretty interesting gems here sometimes. And this is all thanks to Bashboard. So fuck it, let's have a fancy burial at least. If only I could also bury the hope that maybe this project will prove worth something out of sheer luck :)
Onward to a probably failing launch!
