I've made a social media app for sharing your progress!

Hi Indie Hackers! Today I want to show you Krush, an Android app that lets you share the progress you make on your side projects, fitness, and more!

😩 The Problem

A few months ago, I have made two big changes in my life - I have decided to bite the bullet and become a full-time indie entrepreneur, and I have decided to take my fitness seriously. As the time went by, a problem started becoming more and more apparent to me, and I wasn't the only one facing this problem, either:

It's very hard to find people who care about progress as much as you do

What do I mean by that, exactly? Well, slowly but surely, as I was sticking to my plan, I started seeing some progress - I have started losing fat, and I have slowly grown my MRR. For me, those were huge accomplishments and mattered a lot, because I have put most of my mental energy into achieving them. So, naturally, I wanted to share the good news with my friends and family - but, when I did, I was met with a deflating "Oh, that's nice!"

Turns out, not a lot of people cared about the things that I got excited about. Turns out that sharing the morning routine I was working on for 3 weeks straight got nothing but a yawn. Turns out that the 25% reduction in day-1 churn I got from tweaking a little thing in my onboarding was a great way to get the subject of the conversation changed.

Soon, this journey started feeling very lonely, but after talking to some other people in similar situations, I learned that I wasn't alone in feeling like this

🤩 The Solution

For the longest time, an idea was bouncing around in my mind - "how come there's no social media for self improvement? I want to have an app that I can scroll down on while I'm sitting on the toilet, but I'm tired of seeing ass, people flexing, dumb quotes, and random food shots while scrolling on Instagram. I want a social media that actually motivates me to take action, and encourages me to work on my dreams - a social media that's not about image, but about progress" - and then it struck me, it all came together:

What if I made a social media app where me, and other people like myself, can share the progress we're making on our projects?

So, I started working on an MVP. Went through a few iterations, played with a few concepts, until I came across something that feels like it could work.

🤔 What's different about this app?

On Instagram, you see a bunch of highlights, but no context behind them - you have no idea how much work was necessary to get to that little snapshot, or whether that snapshot is even a reflection of reality. This is what I tried to change

On Krush, before you can make a post, you have to set a goal for yourself (for example, one of my first goals was to grow one of my apps to €1000 MRR). After that, you can start making posts through that goal.

Whenever you see a post in your feed, you will also see the goal it belongs to. If you tap on the goal, you'll be able to see the entire journey that was required to get to that point - you will see the successes, the failures, and the challenges that the author met on the way

🙋 Some Advice?

Since I'm writing this, I would also like to ask you guys for an opinion. I've started this app as a general-purpose self-improvement platform. This means I have a bunch of categories added into the app - Fitness, Business, Reading, Mindfulness, Health, etc. I'm still debating whether this is a good idea or not

On one hand, I like the idea of having multiple categories, since many of the same people who are interested in start-ups, would also be interested in fitness and reading, for example. This allows us to build a more well-rounded, diverse community

On the other hand, I'm afraid of diluting the community by offering too many channels - something that happens with Discord servers that have too many channels, for example. Also, I think an elevator pitch would be much easier to make if I only focus on a single area to begin with, such as Fitness or Startups. What do you think?

Thanks for reading!
