I've started getting 10 signups a day, no sales though 😢

Hi Indie Hackers 🤔,

My site Obeatow is offering form submission software with a no-code form builder and HTML submission endpoints.

I've used Google Ads since Dec 2017 and tried making an advertising software, which I ended up shutting down as the Google Ads API was a pain to deal with.

Then I built Rototer which I also shut down as a GDPR compliance tool in August 2021.

The list of failed software products and ideas goes on. See my IH and Product Hunt for numerous failed products.

Here's my product I'm finally getting signups on, but now my onboarding isn't working and I can't figure out why.

Can you take a look and figure out what's going on?

Hey, I just will take some points out but in my opinion, a lot to work on / optimize.

    1. Your copy & USP has to be optimized. You explained in the reply what you are making better than your competitors. But I can not see that when I go on your site. First, I have to scroll around etc. You have to make a statement above the fold to explain what they getting.

    2. Navigation is not working! As well I would recommend just showing Integrations and removing the security product or what that should be. Because people expect their data to be save! You can show that on the checkout or payment page but not as a product feature!

    3. After the signup (on mobile when I go on the signup form) I get overwhelmed with popups. "Usetiful", "Help", "Cookie Banner" and "New". Get rid of that crap and put in a smooth signup process.

    4. When I move on, why do I have to enter a username, I use SSO? That is not a forum, it's a tool I want to use. If I would take over the project I also would remove the questions after the signup.

People are lazy and when they use SSO and then have to answer questions they will drop! If you need those questions answered, give them something for it. Like after the third login a short popup. Answer our survey and get 2 weeks of additional XYZ..

As well, please ask the questions all at once, and not that you have to click ten times the save / ok button.

I also checked the form builder and I get a ton of issues with the UI. Submissions are shown in the middle of the form builder / popping up.

Check yourself, or go to friends, family, and forums that will review your app and tell you about bugs. In that state it is right now, I would not put my time or money into it and move on to another tool.

If you don't want to answer the questions, you didn't see the option to fill it in later or never?

Why you shut them down ? You could have let them float and try to use them to promote other products you have.

    My advice on sales funnel:

    1. Try to make the users to create the subscription with your payment gateway before they can use the product. Most payment gateways offer trial subscriptions
    2. Try to provide some features for free, and make them pay to use premium/advanced ones.

I confused by what you mean, I already have free trials and have a freemium product. They drop off before they even finish onboarding. Like in the middle of it.

What I mean is the subscription to be created with the payment processor before the onboarding.

Oh I see, I can just trigger the free trial with this same function that the free plan uses and tell everyone "From then on, trials will be triggered immediately on sign up instead of having to click "upgrade plan", then initiate the free trial like Zapier, Tribe, or any others of those.

That's what I've had wrong this whole time building software products for 4 years.

I don't think I'm your target market, so take this with a grain of salt. I'm not familiar with how form submission services work, and your landing page didn't really educate me on what forms are or why they might be useful to me.

That said, the heading and subheading aren't very compelling. What makes this form submission service different? What benefit would I get from using it?

The screenshots also don't highlight the product very well. They are fairly bare and honestly don't scream "high quality product". (They're also very blurry, so it's hard to read them.)

Don't take this too harshly, but the UI looks like it could use some polish and focus. There's a lot of white space in them and there isn't enough of a visual hierarchy to help me understand what I'm looking at. That alone is enough for me as a visitor to think "Not for me".

Hi, I was more referring to the user onboarding. after users sign up they immediately leave after filling in their account. My competitors like https://usebasin.com, https://formspark.io, and https://formcarry.com, https://www.formbackend.com, etc seem to be where people are going.

All of these products count the number of forms versus mine where we just give you one endpoint and id for all your forms and the ones that don't still make you continue to create endpoints for each form.

Also, your submissions all appear in one place in your dashboard unlike competitors where they make you choose a form to view.

So our service is not as limited and probably more intuitive yet people still leave in the middle of onboarding.

Oh, I see. They actually create an account and then never navigate anywhere else? Or do they get to the sign-up screen and just leave?

        1. 1

They sign up, start onboarding, and leave after they enter data into optional account creation step sometimes.

My Hotjar account isn't picking enough up as I've started getting sooooooo much traffic they are covering only like 20% of all traffic.

Even worse I'm getting negative user feedback

Can you or someone signup and see what exactly is going on?
