Hey Indie Hackers! It’s Niall Doherty again from eBizFacts.com. I've been operating solo for over a decade now – earning about $25k/month from my own business these days – and I do a ton of research on how people make money online and different business models.
I recently came across Lior Neu-ner and his site RemoteRocketship.com. Lior registered the domain at the end of November 2022
Just five months later, he had grown it to receive 19,000 monthly clicks and generates $2000 in monthly recurring revenue.
What's even more remarkable is that Lior achieved this despite having little experience with SEO. He openly admits that he had to learn everything from scratch.
In fact, his newsletter is aptly named "I Have No Idea What I'm Doing" 😂
Remote Rocketship functions as a remote job board, but Lior has made it stand out from its competitors.
Unlike most job boards that lack sufficient job listings or comprehensive company information, Lior took a different approach.
He scrapes popular recruiting sites like Workable, Greenhouse, and Lever, where the majority of job openings are hosted. By doing so, he gathers useful information such as salaries and hiring locations.
Additionally, he combines this data with other valuable insights he finds online, such as funding and company size.
Lior has monetized Remote Rocketship in two ways…
Offering premium subscription seems to have worked out nicely for Lior, he reported getting to 100 paying customers.
While explaining his SEO journey, Lior highlights an interesting strategy he employed: "Programmatic SEO + ChatGPT."
Programmatic SEO can be thought of as a way to mass-produce SEO-optimized content that targets low-competition keywords.
While the quality of the content produced by ChatGPT is good but not exceptional, Lior found it effective for targeting low-difficulty keywords for his job site.
He then goes onto explain how he used ChatGPT to generate content for generating programmatic articles on his substack.
That’s all for today, let me know what you think in the comments below.
P.S. If you enjoyed this breakdown, please consider sharing it.
My team and I spend several hours researching online businesses each week.
I also write a twice-weekly newsletter at ebizfacts.com about business ideas and share learnings from my own business.
Wow amazing website, gives me lots of idea for my side project! Thanks for sharing
It's wild that ChatGPT can produce effective, low-competition SEO content at scale. It definitely seems like a game-changer for businesses looking to improve their online visibility without breaking the bank. And Lior's use of ChatGPT for his Substack articles is a testament to its versatility. It's almost like he's got a secret weapon in his content creation arsenal! Props to him for staying ahead of the curve. Thanks for the breakdown, it's been fascinating to hear about this programmatic SEO strategy. 🤓
It's strange to see a job board charge job seekers but it has worked great for remoterocketship
