How it's happening?
The initial traction was thanks to a couple of Pieter Level's RTs of the tweet below about me building StackOverflow Jobs Alternatives (Which later rebranded to jobboardsearch.com ๐)
A couple of weeks later, a Sunday morning before going to the beach posted about JobBoardSearch on the subreddit r/InternetIsBeautiful and it went super viral ๐ฅ
I've made a comment about JobBoardSearch ๐ on an @IndieHackers
post and a moderator asked me to make a post about it (I've never written a post before)
It got featured on the home page, and newsletter which created a lot of awareness ๐ฅ
1000s of mentions on Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok (I never asked or paid, happens organically)
I collected some and posted it on the Wall of Love โค
https://jobboardsearch.com/wall-of-love
How is making the ๐ต?
Pieter, in a DM suggested including paid options:
โข Sticky ๐
โข Custom Color ๐ข
โข Highlight โจ
Also, I decided to include 3 sponsored slots:
โข Gold ๐ฅ
โข Silver๐ฅ
โข Bronze ๐ฅ
I tweeted, and right away 4 Day Week Jobs purchased a slot
How did I come up with the idea?
Learned about Stackoverflow Jobs was shutting down and folks asking for alternatives
Inspired by Pieter Levels' way: minimalist, scrappy, not-perfect way of doing things, ship asap and improve later
Made JobBoardSearch ๐ MVP in 5 hours
Of course, is not all of a bed of roses, there are a lot of days that you feel that you are not capable of doing it.
It's important to share your win and loses with likeminded people, to get encouraged when you are down, and to encourage others when you feel up ๐
I even thought about not posting this at all, because I thought is not good enough
That there are other indie makers doing the same revenue in a month
But hey, even though I've been making a living by freelancing for the last 14 years this is my 1st product so I hope this inspires some other folks that are a few steps behind
It's hard to keep pushing when things are not working, it is so easy to quit!
The trick is to find something that keeps you accountable
For me was building in public and the WIP community
Even though it's hard when you receive DMs like this put a massive smile on your face and you think: it's worth it!
A random guy thanked me because my product helped him to find remote work for his mate that is having a baby ๐

I'm grateful for all that happened in the last 6 months so I would like to give away the book ๐
make: THE INDIE MAKER HANDBOOK by @levelsio
I think it will help any indie maker starting and wanting to build a job board
How to get the book?
You need to RT ๐ & like ๐งก the tweet below, I will make a raffle.
Thanks for reading ๐ and hope you are enjoying my journey!
Any questions, AMA, always happy to help ๐
What was your MVP? It's pretty impressive that you made it in 5 hours. It usually takes me at least a couple of days.
It was just HTML, raw CSS, and vanilla JavaScript (some jQuery), there wasn't any functionality or database, I created a JSON file with 10/15 job boards and used the file as a DB.
I needed it really fast, the timing was important because people were asking about StackOverflow alternatives under Pieter Levels tweet so I wanted to post there asap
So in terms of functionality, people were not able to add posts yet?
When I launched it there was no functionality at all!
Nice! The true MVP :)
Hey Rodrigo, I'm a fan of your work with JobBoardSearch, following your progress on Twitter!
My twin brothers are data scientists working in Germany. They are building a job board with vetted opportunities in data science in Germany (datajob io).
Is it possible to get it included on JobBoardSearch, too?๐
Thanks a lot and sorry for the late reply.
Of course, you can post your job board at https://JobBoardSearch.com/add-board
Are you scraping all the data or API access?
Sorry for the late reply, it's from API or RSS feed, I don't do any scrapping :)
So it's just a directory of job boards?
It's is but also a meta search as I list jobs with in each job board listing.
Also, the jobs are cross posted on Telegram with 5.4k members, the subreddit with 5.2k members, some of the jobs on the newsletter with 5.4k susb, Twitter 950 followers.
