Just do it

I've been procrastinating and wanting to create the perfect video or the perfect content for some time now, I can't tell how many courses or video ideas I've written and "polished" in this last year, I was going to throw this idea of reinforcement learning in the trash again and start a new pursuit.

But the thing is, just do it, I spent 30min writing a script, didn't overlook or tried to make as polished as possible, recorded the video, edited and published today, and the next is going to be the same

Just do it, the project that you've been pushing to make, just make it. If you are also in a situation like I was, I've been thinking about a quote

“Every artist has thousands of bad drawings in them and the only way to get rid of them is to draw them out.”

― Chuck Jones

Just get rid of that thousand bad things as fast as possible so that you can be free to get better content or products right away!

Hope you are doing fine.

Congrats 😄! Procrastination is not a good habit (trust me. I know. I have it). Wish you luck!

Thanks! How do you deal with procrastination?

I use a Trello board most of the time, I give myself mini rewards for doing tasks (playing video games, going for a walk, playing basketball outside, etc.), and most of all, I put on my noise cancelling earbuds and listen to some Lofi beats.

Nice, I've used trello once at my job, for my personal projects I've been using Notion for a while now

For me, the way I have ultimately conquered procrastination is by hiring other people and creating an interdependent team.

I would say that at least for myself, this accountability is the biggest unseen benefit to having a team versus playing solo besides the obvious increase in throughput and diversity in skill set.

By outsourcing my lack of individual motivation to others who want to get directly compensated for working (as opposed to my abstract goals which may be intangible) and creating team dynamics of accountability where someone else's work output is dependent on me getting things done, I cannot slack off invisibly. People are depending on me to get things done, and I make my work transparent to embarrass myself in front of the team if I don't.

People have a million tricks and techniques to try and get themselves to stay motivated in a vacuum, and none have worked for me besides group accountability with actual incomes at stake. At the end of the day I think it's the way most companies operate - people want to get paid, not get fired, and not let their teammates down, or be perceived negatively by colleagues.

You can try re-creating this environment and see how you perform.

As you said @cherubian_, each person will have to figure it out how to deal with their own procrastination, I guess this is the reason why so many can't figure it out how to deal with it, as it isn't a one-time deal type of advice that you can get. Thanks for sharing

For sure, I always say I'm like a sine wave, a burst of productivity followed by a rabbit whole 🤣
