Just got my first paying customer today - here's how I did it
I've been building Bazzly for the last 3 weeks, and today I finally launched it and already got my first customer without having a big audience.
I only used this one simple approach: manual cold DMs.
I'd find and send cold DMs to my target audience on X and invited them to try out the tool for free.
I used the same approach for one of my previous SaaS as well, and it's working great because:
You can build relationships with your target audience
You can get qualitative feedback to improve the product
You can ask them for testimonials to include in your landing page
I also grew one of my previous projects from 0 to 50 users with this exact approach.
So if you're struggling to find your first customers: cold DMs is your best way, especially in your early stages when no one knows or trusts your tool.
This is spot on ✅ One nuance most founders only learn the hard way: the “small win” has to be a belief win, not just a UI win 😄
If the first result feels fake, tiny, or unrelated to the paid outcome, you get the worst pattern: users feel “kinda satisfied”… then they’re done. That “satisfied but done” problem kills upgrade rates even with good onboarding.
Easy 25-min test: pull the last 20 users who signed up but didn’t pay.
Check if they reached a full outcome for free. If yes, your first win is complete enough to end the story. Add a second win right after that unlocks the paid habit.

Right now, I’m facing a challenge: the subreddits on Reddit often ban me, claiming that I’m promoting my product. Even when I minimize promotional elements and never include any links, their entry standards are still extremely strict. This has made me a bit discouraged.

If you've been mainly getting banned for creating posts on Reddit, you can follow my approach to replying to posts that I mention in the article.
I recommend start posting on Reddit only after you get $100+ MRR traction and get a good understanding of the domain your product solves, so you can start creating content that is truly valuable (unique strategies that work, your journey to $100 MRR etc.)
