Just got on HN front page! First 8, then dropped to 16 ("Powered by" buttons for customer acquisition):

I've basically re-published an article I wrote on IndieHackers some time ago. Saw that for some reason HN prefers Substack, so decided to put it there. And it worked :D
Will wait to see how this pans out and publish a case study soon (of whether I got any subscribers, etc.)

Hey! This is a great article! Well written. I think my product I am working would be hard to use the "Powered By" but dang if that's not a good idea! For people who are building a widget type of product or app that gets embedded into larger products, the "Powered By" strategy is brilliant. Great Work!
Thanks. Totally agree, though I think it can be used by products that are not so "public" (but can still benefit, because competitors go to great lengths to find out what their competitors are using :)) )
Yeah thats a good point. I know I have found myself looking in-depth at similar products to mine just to see how they are built or why they are doing the things they do.

Btw, I don't think there's a big preference for Substack. I'd use your own domain instead every time, because that way you improve your overall site SEO (domain authority) instead of Substack's domain authority.
Awesome stuff! HN can be a bit brutal with their comments sometimes but don’t let it get in the way. I bet for every one person that posts negative their are probably 30-50 lurkers who enjoyed your content anyway.

The only reason why I re-published on Substack is because I saw HN favoring it for some reason. Thought it's more likely for them to pick me if I publish there vs. publishing on my (still new&random) domain.

It's funny I had a top-voted HN comment for around 24 hours and got around 200 subscribers from there. Now being on the front page for 5 hours, I barely got 20-30 (and at a far slower pace). Hm...
Yeah that’s the same reason why I’d use substack. My product is for developers so I’d like to make content on a platform that attracts the HN crowd too.
Nice article. The "powered by" is similar to the classic story of how Hotmail grew. They started automatically putting "Sent from Hotmail" in their user's email signatures and their popularity exploded. Remember, back in the day there were almost no "free" email services, so people were ok with allowing a signature if could get free email.
I suggest you post the HackerNews link to the discussion. Posts age off of the front-page of HN very quickly, so folks won't find it soon. Also upvoted.
