Just launched a new product, now what?

Just wanted to start by saying, thanks to all contributors to this website. I find the content so useful, and it’s great to read/listen to stories from inspirational people.

I have recently launched a new website called Baby By Month. The basic idea of the website is to display monthly baby milestones over your photos and easily add photo collages (up to 6 images). There are loads of apps that do this already on the App Store, but not many responsive websites that do it for free. I’d be really interested in hearing any feedback on my site.

I need help with post launch. How do I market a website like this? This is the first website I’ve launched on my own in five years. Because in the last five years I’ve been focusing on developing and improving my career. SEO seems to have moved on so much. And with social media added to the mix, it’s difficult to know where to start.

If anyone has any advice or experience on promoting a site like this I’d much appreciate it.

Also, I am potentially looking for a co-founder who can fill the marketing gap in my skills. And help Baby By Month reach a wider audience.

I am looking for part time Front End development work that I can work on remotely. So I can continue to fund my side project. If this was working with another entrepreneur where we can share knowledge that would be amazing. My plan is to get as much feedback on Baby By Month and iterate versions, then repeat.

    From what I'm seeing:

    1. Start searching for "Parent" websites, single mothers, single fathers, etc.
    2. Find Forums that allow you to promote yourself.
    3. If they don't allow you to promote yourself, pay for some advertising on those forums
    4. iOS / Android app?
    5. Build and collect an email list.
    6. Tell all your friends who have babies.
    7. Tell them to tell all their friends.
    8. Are you planning to monetize this at all? I'm pretty sure you could charge a small fee to use the service especially if it's a reminder service and allows you to add special effects to the baby.
    9. See if you can partner with companies who specialize in all things baby -- baby books, etc., and you can make deals with them to get your website out there
    10. Focus on SEO and a blog. Writing about baby photos and even an area to show the progression -- people "seeing" this is the ultimate psychology of getting your customer: "Oh wow, look at what they did -- I want to do that!" Allow for a public display too for a discount or whatever.
    11. Go around town... or "Meetups" or anything parenting classes like that -- get them to promote your service if you can.

Hope this gives you an idea. And I only bring up the idea of monetization because if you offer it for free... you'll only do it for so long. Monetizing keeps you interested. So figure it out. Doesn't have to be a lot, but a gentle nudge or reminder each day to take baby photos and keep people accountable can go a long way in the reasons why they stay signed up and continue paying the $2.99 a month or whatever it is you wish to charge.

Wow, this is amazing feedback, thanks @mgates. The reminder service is a great idea and could be a good way to get users signed up to a newsletter :-)

I suppose I've held off monetization because I want to build a product that users like first. And starting off free, I thought was the best way to guest user feedback.

Blogger moms will be the best influencers for your website. Approach them, ask them to review your site and explain that your site is not for profit so perhaps they can feature it in their blogs/social media profiles for free.

    EDIT:
Also, your website is loading too slow :( (I'm on a 50/30 Mbps connection)

Thanks a lot Blaze for you feedback. I have actually contacted around 5-10 mums/dads. But only two have replied back in the last week. I will keep going.

I see what you mean about the page speed. I will look at optimising the site further (especially the homepage).

Maybe this will help you: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fbabybymonth.com%2F

Anything below 90 is slow in my perspective ;) so try to optimise your site to reflect above 90 in Google Pagespeed Insights :)

Interesting idea will, I like that you decided to niche down to target young parents with your product. I think that the landing page header explains the value proposition quiet well. The page is not too long and explains selling points good, also dig the personal touch with the explainer video. Good luck with the project and just keep pushing the locomotive forward!

Hi @tomswebdesign, thanks for your words of encouragement. The challenge is going to be pushing the locomotive forward long-term and not derail :-)

    Hi Londonwill!

Thanks for the question! As for me one of the most important steps to take when it comes to developing a successful digital software product is to pick the right technology stack...

I mean including Frontend, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, Frontend frameworks, Backend, Web Design (also UI/UX) and of course Marketing. So you need a great team!

Take a look at this article, it explains well: How to Choose a Technology Stack for Web Application Development. Here is a link: https://yalantis.com/blog/tech-stack-for-web-app-development/

Hope it would be informative for you.
