Just launched CanonForge – a tiny tool to spark weird headcanons for fictional characters

Hey Indie Hackers 👋

I’ve been working on a small side project called CanonForge.

It’s a simple tool: you type in a character name and a few traits, and it spits out oddly specific headcanons — hidden motives, quirks, or backstories.

Why?

Because I write short fanfics sometimes and love daydreaming about “what if” scenarios. But brainstorming fresh headcanons every time takes effort. I wanted something lightweight to spark new ideas instantly.

Built it using Claude Code (Anthropic) + Next.js + React, deployed on Cloudflare.

Free to try, browser-based, no sign-up.

It doesn’t try to write your whole fic or replace creativity — more like a quick nudge to see familiar characters from a new angle.

If you also overthink fictional characters at 2am, you might get why this exists 😅

Curious what you all think:

  • Would you use something like this?

  • Any ideas to make it more useful / fun?

Thanks for reading! 🙏
