Just launched: FirstClassMeme, send a meme in the actual, physical mail

Hey IndieHackers!

About 6 years ago, I posted on Reddit offering to send anyone a meme in the mail for $2.

Today, thanks to the power of vibe-coding and poor impulse control, I built the real thing.

Introducing FirstClassMeme! https://www.firstclassmeme.com

Choose a meme (or upload your own), customize it, enter an address, and you're off - for just $3.99.

Features:

  • Anonymous sending 😈
  • Scheduled meme delivery
  • Choose from curated memes, or upload your own

Stack:

  • React/Next.js on Vercel
  • Self-hosted memegen on Render
  • Supabase db/storage
  • Epson printer in my bedroom

I promise this is real - I really print these, I really put a stamp on them and take them to the post office, and you can really send one to your boss.

Would love your feedback — or better yet, send someone a meme. Bonus points if it confuses the USPS.

Wait, this is awesome. How did you set up your flow?

Someone places an order then it automatically prints and you just package up to send? Did you automate the printing/label making? Or do you print ON the envelopes?

      thank you!! great questions

fulfillment is partially automated right now. i have a script that i run daily to pull new order data & generate the print file (pdf) for each one. this file has the meme on one page, and address/message/etc on the other (they’re postcards, so no envelope)

so i just have to run this script, print the output files, stamp them, and send!

i’m working on taking this a step further by putting this script on a raspberry pi and listening for webhooks from my DB to automatically generate print files and print as soon as orders are received!

i considered using a direct mail API like Lob, but they use business mail instead of stamp and i wanted that personal touch.

        Personal touch is chef's kiss.
I kind of one off every so often make cards on my pixma megajet, but finding the right cardstock is kind of annoying. I'm a noob tho. I bought a couple domains last month to set up for selling my cards just to let it run and see what comes of it, because I think now more than ever people need personal touch and connection in the everyday small moments.

Anyways, love yours!!! Gives me potato parcel vibes but even more accessible bc price point.

nice!! would love to check out your site when you get it going :)

i’m also working on themailbutton.com, not quite done yet but it was the inspiration for the meme site 😂 feel free to check it out (stripe is still in test mode, so the 4242 test credit card number works)

THIS IS AWESOME HAHA, you've inspired me to push mine live. will probs start with my carded dot co domain (won't let me post links)

what kind of cardstock/paper have you had the best luck with? and this is so minor, but I'd underline "click here" for wanna mail a meme

i also have a daily(ish) email that i send to fam/friends i'm starting to actually market, will s/o meme card sometime!!
