www.rona.games
I'm calling it a "thing" because I don't really have plans to monetize it, nor do I really know exactly what it is, ha.
The backstory is that I've been interested in the no-code movement for a while and wanted to build something (anything) to force myself to learn more.
Initially, I had no idea what to build; however, it dawned on me that a directory of all the games that can be played over Zoom with friends and family would be a perfect first project: my wife, friends family, co-workers, and I are always holding virtual game nights and started keeping a list of new games we found so we didn't have to constantly play the same ones. I took that list, added more games to it, and put it all in Airtable.
I then started learning Webflow* to create the site itself. Luckily, my wife is a designer, so she was able to mock everything up for me. I used JetBoost to create the filters, without which, the project would've been completely sunk from the outset. Finally, I connected my Airtable database via Zapier to Webflow, and—POW—I have my first project.
I launched today on Product Hunt, LinkedIn, and reached out to a few journalists that have covered Zoom games in the last month or so. A few hours in and the results are pretty modest (~500 visits), but I'm energized. I have a lot of fixes and updates to make, but I'm excited to just have done something.
Would love any feedback, suggestions, or questions!
*I'm truly terrible at Webflow and need to spend a lot more time there.
I like the idea, and it looks like you already have a decent amount of games on the site. To make it more engaging i wouldn't recommend adding images, or ideally gif's that show people what the game does.
Good luck with the project.
Thanks for the feedback. A couple people have said the same thing. I'm not quite sure how to make it work (some of the games are word games without images), but I like the idea. I'll think through it a bit. Thanks again!
@jordanjwoods you did a great job!
I'd recommend making the directory more visible where people can glance at the list of games and see the difference
This is cool! And congrats! I agree with the images/gifs just to spice it up a bit. Even just a screenshot or the homepage would be cool if they are text based like you mentioned.
I'd also mention adding some way for users to add to the list or at least let them suggest a site so you can add manually (simple contact/suggestion form).
Good feedback. One of the ideas I'm kicking around is—again, just to make things more visually appealing—adding a set of stylized card images. They wouldn't do much in terms of showing people what the game looks like because they'd essentially be placeholders (for example, a different color of the little "virus" I'm using in the logo), but it'd be more visually appealing.
Also, 100% agree on a submission form. I'm building that this weekend. Will be great to get other submissions!
Yeah exactly, indie hackers includes the little images for each category which doesn't add too much information necessarily but it makes it a bit more visually appealing. Goodluck!
