Just launched. Niche or not on home page?

Hey All,

We just launched our product https://mergeos.com earlier this month.

We've made the home page fairly generic, but we have a niche that we plan to initially target, and a few more to follow. What do you all think about having a generic home page and then creating a separate landing page for the niche?

Also, any thoughts on our current home page now?

    @ceebecee

    Always always niche.

Write copy that resonates and is customised around a persona's pains to drive higher conversion.

    There is no debate here.

It's REALLY difficult to get people to convert even when you're writing directly to them and using every other technique in your toolbox.

Do not expect them to translate your product's value to their use case - do that for them, or die.

    Great product and execution! @ceebecee

    I'll focus on design feedback

    • I can see a lot of colors being used, hence I don't know where to look first
    • The choice of illustrations and icons seems not aligned

Other than that. No big red flag :)

I'm also improving my site, keen to know your advice!

    Hello Chris,

Great idea with a great website! I have a few notes and decided to give my feedback.

This is one of the firsts videos I am recording giving feedback to other IndieHackers.
I will really appreciate if you have any type of feddback.

Hope you find my notes useful.

    Best regards,

    hey chris!

first of all, the carnivorous folder icon on how it works -> save & send cracked me up! 😂

let me summarize what it is i think you do: mergeos lets me automate word / excel documents by uploading templates, filling in content, and scheduling emails. for example, i could upload an invoice template, and every time i get a new client, simply add their logo, project details, and schedule when to send. right?

what else can i do with it? can i hook up google analytics to send weekly reports? or ad accounts to track ad spend? i think it'd be really valuable to have a quick checklist of a few examples of what i can do with it pretty high up on the landing page. i see you have an examples page tailored more specifically for me, but that's behind a 5-field opt-in, and i'm probably not doing all that and waiting just to see what i can do with your product. just a quick list of a few most common examples would be sufficient.

i would definitely create niche pages for niche targets. could help seo, but most importantly you can craft more compelling copy for each niche, once you know their pain points and how it will benefit them the most.

Thanks for the awesome feedback, really appreciate it. I'll be sure to let our designer know she cracked you up :)

You're pretty close on the features, using your example you could upload an invoice template and hook it up so that the project details, costs etc are automatically populated. You could also send the data through to Excel first to create charts or do calcs and then merge that automatically into the final pdf too Emails aren't scheduled, but sent when the document is merged.

I like your other ideas too. Will need to redo the example page a bit I think. Really didn't think about the friction there, and would rather people just try it out.

        haha, excellent!

okay, cool. that makes more sense. i didn't see a whole lot of value in scheduling an email to send the invoice, as i'd probably just want to send it when i merged it. but figured there could be times i may want to schedule an email, perhaps.

for clarity, i don't mind the examples page opt-in as a lead magnet (when they opt in for their working example, also drop them into a nurture email campaign to warm them up to your service). i was saying to add a separate quick list with a few quick examples near the top of the home page (you could also add it to the example page). something like:

        ----------

what can mergeos automate for you?

        • send beautiful client invoices with their project details
        • receive weekly analytics reports with insightful charts
        • (whatever the top few most common examples might be)
        • and so much more!

click here to try your own document!

        ----------

is the example on the example page instant / automated, or do you have to set it up and send it to them? if it's instant, i would specify so, because i didn't gather that from the example page.
