Hey Indie Hackers,
We recently launched the Beta for Birdie, a time-off management tool that gives teams more flexibility without the complexity of typical HR software.
It’s free to use during Beta, and a few early teams are already onboard with positive feedback.
Birdie lets you define custom leave policies, set up approval flows, and automatically sync everything with Slack and Google Calendar. It's flexible enough to work for startups, growing teams, and remote-first setups.
We're a team of two with backgrounds in product and engineering. Our goal is to keep Birdie simple where it matters, and powerful under the hood. We’re building in public, sharing progress via our [open roadmap], and plan to open-source the full platform soon.
Tech stack (for the devs):
Next.js, DrizzleJS, tRPC, next-auth, Neon, Vercel, Trigger.dev, Resend
We haven’t finalized pricing yet, but we’re planning a free hosted tier for small teams (likely up to 5 users) post-Beta. For now, it’s all free during Beta — try it out, and we’d love your feedback as we keep improving!
If you get a chance to try it, we’d genuinely appreciate your thoughts!
Love that you’re prioritizing flexibility without the HR bloat. Syncing with Slack + GCal is a huge win. Curious: any unexpected feedback from early teams that shaped your roadmap?
Thanks so much, really appreciate it! So far, feedback has been pretty aligned with what we expected, which is reassuring. A few things, like export options and Slack-related improvements, got bumped up earlier than planned, since they came up more often. Doing a few discovery sessions before launch definitely helped shape the core experience early on.
Congrats on launching Birdie — love the focus on simplicity and tight integrations! Curious if you’re considering adding any kind of usage insights or team trends in the future? Excited to see how it evolves!
Thanks so much, really appreciate the kind words! Insights and reporting are definitely on our radar. We haven’t finalized exactly how they’ll work yet, but we know it’s important for teams to understand things like leave patterns, availability, or approval bottlenecks over time. If there are specific metrics or views you’d find useful, your feedback would be really helpful. We’re always open to shaping this with real feedback.
