Just launched! Visualize your life in weeks

I just launched a small tool to help you visualize your time on Earth as part of my 12 products in 12 months challenge!

Play with it here: https://mytime.earth

One of my favorite analogies of time is by Tim Urban, here it goes:

  • It's important to remember that your time on Earth is finite.
  • If you can live up to 90 years old, you'll have about 4,680 weeks at your disposal.
  • Think of each week as a little diamond measuring 2mm and weighing 0.05 carats.
  • If you multiply the volume of the little diamond by the number of weeks in 90 years, it totals just under a tablespoon.

Are you making the most of your weeks?

For a person who prefer visual thinking (e.g. me), it really helps to put all of these in perspective with some illustrations. The site does exactly that. Plus, you can use it to set up recurring email reminders to yourself whenever a week/month/season passes.

I'm thinking about adding a feature for users to create deadlines / bucket lists which will be included in the email reminders.

How do you feel about it? Any feedback / advise is greatly appreciated!

The sign-up is a bit of a blocker for me.

Always give a reason to sign-up or give someone your contact, in this case, it's too fast and I don't see the value upfront.

BTW have you read Four thousand weeks? :)

    1. 2

Same for me... the text is cool, I almost signed up, but at the end no... do it with email only!
I won't overthink it, just put email, then validation and done.

    2. 1

Thanks for the feedback! I'm considering to move sign up to a later stage of the user journey (maybe at reminder creation) but that will take some major refactoring.
Four thousand weeks seems interesting - how do you like it?

      1. 1

maybe give more reason to sign-up, I don't see any now – like "save your progress", or just easy access, or some benefit of signing up. Otherwise, I feel people would just try it and don't come back.
The book is great, really makes you realize what's important and that the time is finite :)

Good point. For now I'll probably add some helpful text on the sign up page. Added to my reading list!

Update: Just released the bucket list feature! Also improved landing page per people's feedback - thank you all!
Still experimenting with ideas of password-less login / delay of account registrations.

it is good to have it at the back of your mind but not in front of your eyes, it will stress me a big time

    1. 1

Thanks for sharing! I sometimes get stressed as well!

  4. 1

I love the idea. I would like to try it without a signup.

    1. 1

Thanks for the feedback - I'm working on a password-less sign up now aiming to reduce friction

  5. 1

Like the others, was about to use it, but needed an account sign-up. Passed and will probably forget about this forever the moment I post this comment.

    1. 1

Same, I'd be excited to try it without a signup!

    2. 1

      Thank you for the feedback!

Would have loved to check it out if it was possible to use it without an account first but with the possibility to sign up and save my work if I decide I find it useful.

    1. 1

Thanks for the feedback! Makes total sense - will definitely implement this

      1. 1

Nice! Please ping me when you do.

Hey! Love the idea. I feel the vibe of "the app that tracks your to-do list of experiences". Along with others, the sign up is a blocker for me too. Ultimately, I wanted to check it out, so I created an account.

What's your plan for revenue? Also, is this only web or is there a mobile app? I could see this as an app that users keep downloaded for a long time and refer back to from time-to-time.

    1. 1

For to-do list: totally! I'm currently working on a feature to add them to life views.
Currently I don't have a plan for revenue - given it doesn't cost me that much to host it, I'm comfortable offering it for free as long as people find it helpful. Do you have any advise on monetization?
Might consider making native apps in the future!

      1. 1

Monetization could be around the frequency of reminders. "Get 1 reminder per year for free. Pay to get reminders more often."

      2. 1

Ads are always an option, but the UI is so clean without them! For me this seems like a good candidate for a yearly subscription model for a few premium features.

Good luck with your product and congrats on the launch! 🎉

A few years ago I had one of these calendars on my office wall. These days I don't because for me I decided that I don't want to define my life as "I was super productive" or "I was not super productive". In my opinion there's a lot in between and many lessons to learn.

    1. 2

Thanks for sharing! I do agree that being super productive is not always the best way to use ones time. Thinking about updating the site design to make it more clear it is up to the user to define what a great week looks like

I was going to test the tool but I've found out that I have to sign up. Why?

Just show me how good is your tool without having to sign up and then if I like it I'll do it.

    Just my 2 cents...

    1. 1

      Thanks for the feedback!
Edit: just added previews to the landing page!

  10. 1

    that's scary ahahaha

    1. 1

I know right? The people of Bhutan reportedly contemplate death 5 times a day! Maybe there's some health benefits in doing so. This might be a gentle way to ease into that mindset

  11. 1

    it looks awesome

    1. 1

      😃 Thank you!

Hi Milton, https://mytime.earth is very interesting, it reminds me that life is short, so make the most of every moment.
The UI could be improved a little to attract users. :)

    1. 2

Thanks San! Do you have any recommendation on the UI? Is it the sign up flow or dashboard?

      1. 1

        Dashboard, I am saying
