My focus has been to create a "perfect" product that I would feel proud to share. This led to many months of working and abandoning or products that never seen the light of day.
I changed my approach this past year, I've started a remote job board for startups and this has been the first product that I've launched early (3mo in). I would argue 3 months isn't early but compared to my past process, this was definitely a big shift. The product ended up not going anywhere, but it did get traffic and I believe created value for people who were searching for a job.
This brings me to my new venture, Golf With John. I have 0 content, but I decided to start building my audience from friends, family, and the communities I'm part of before I upload my first video. This leads to 2 things. Once I create my first content (sometime next month) I will already have an audience to share my experiences with. I also get the validation that there are interests out there.
This realization of capturing followers/supporters early has really changed the way I see starting a business. It doesn't have to be perfect. There is no perfect. But it's about bringing value and validating with these early followers.
I hope this gives you the push to start working on your idea.
For those golfers or anyone interested, if you'd subscribe to my channel I'll be sharing my golf rounds with shot tracer to show you all my shots. Hopefully, this leads you to your best round ever!
