Just started a newsletter on digital culture

Hi all. My name is Josh and I first started my own business in 2000, whilst I was in the military. I launched a children’s book illustration studio which was eventually acquired in 2010.

However writing and research have always featured heavily amongst my interests. After completing a PhD in politics in 2014 I started work as an academic and researcher, hoping to explore specific intersections between digital culture and everyday life.

As of 2021, I finally found the time to start a newsletter/writing project - Wait! Just Listen https://waitjustlisten.substack.com

3 weeks in and now with 200 subscribers, the newsletter is still in its infancy but it allows me to write about insights that I extract from publicly accessible data across various digital cultures. I explore how people, communities and businesses work with digital media and the unexpected outcomes and stories embedded within.

My eventual aim is to deliver a paid subscription service for selected articles that involve more technical effort and provide more analytically astute deep dives into key topics within the online space.

Whilst I’ve got no idea if there is indeed an appetite for such content, I’m hoping to learn as I go. I’m realising that writing for an online audience is remarkably different from the journal articles and book chapters I’ve published in the past. There is a learning curve to this.

And with that....thanks very much for reading this intro. If stories around data and digital cultures tickle your fancy, please consider subscribing.

Cheers
Josh
