Lack of Self-Accountability

I told myself, my twitter followers, and my users that I was going all-in on Better Sheets. To be honest I said I'm going full time. At the beginning of October I said this publicly.

I was telling the truth, in that moment.

I did go full time on Better Sheets.

I didn't, however, commit 100% of my mind, energy and resources.

This is my failure.

This is my lack of self-accountability.

But out of that lack of self-accountability I created my first ever SaaS app.

An extensive history of too many projects, resulted in my lizard brain not putting down an idea. Not shutting it out completely from my feeble indiehacker brain.

"Must solve this problem" it said.

I've got other problems here.... I said back.

Do you also have this problem?

Did you have this problem?

Did you solve this problem for yourself?

Hi Andrew! I recognize what you’re saying. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that I don’t need to devote 100% of my energy, commitment and focus to the business; only during the time that I committed to working on it.

Spending all that I have on a business doesn’t work for me. I have other things to deal with in life that also require – and deserve – the same energy, commitment and focus. Nowadays, I spend all of my “work energy” on the business. Some days that means being exhausted after willingly putting in everything for 10 hours. Others, it means my brain is fried at 1pm and I call it a day (and yes, the rest of the team does the same).

If you’re in it for the long run, you have to stay sane for the long run. That said, sticking with a single project definitely makes it easier :)

Thanks for sharing your experience. Just gotta tip my cap to the next little idea that rolls out of this gray stuff between my ears. And then engage! engage! engage!
