Landing page aka only page... πŸ˜…

Hey all, hope your Saturday is going well 🌞.

I put together: https://www.joincolab.io/ πŸ‘ˆ

Is it clear what we're trying to do? Do you have any suggestions?

Goal of the landing page:

  1. Convey idea: A hands-on, learning-by-doing program meant to empower and prepare technologists to succeed within the industry. Get matched up cross-discipline and ship an idea together with real users and impact.
  2. Increase # of sign-ups of product managers, developers, designers.
  3. Grow email list (realized I didn't even put the link in for this...)

Conversion wise:
Set it up 7 days ago, started pushing it a bit in our networks but could do better.
519 unique users so far, 6% have filled out the application. I think this is alright?

This is my first time working on something like this, so pls be gentle! πŸ™

Thanks a bunch ~

    Hey Helen,

From looking at the page it took me some time to figure out what the offering is but I think that's due to the fact that it's not common. Mostly I had trouble reconciling the idea of working on projects with gaining experience to build more attractive resumes and land jobs. Mostly my thought was: why take a job after doing this project? If it's successful, why not see it to fruition and eventually make money from it?

Could you say that this is a sort of accelerated internship/apprenticeship? I wonder if you'd be able to find real projects from companies for the students to work on. That way the companies would pay you and it'd be free to students. Education is incredibly expensive in the US, and bootcamps are taking full advantage of it. The closer you can get your price to zero, the more people will be able to participate in it, and the more you'll be able to help the populations that need it most :)

Quick aside: aren't bootcamps supposed to already provide this sort of experience or at least somehow guarantee a job at the end?

    Cheers,
    Ben

Hey hey hey Ben, thanks for the feedback! I actually thought about it some more and reframed/updated the copy on the site in hopes of making it more clear. Hopefully the value prop stands out now!

And yes! We're actually in talks with some big companies to try to get student projects right now. Definitely aiming for b2b rather than b2c in the hopefully near future. Fingers crossed!

From what we've seen, bootcamps cannot actually provide a placement rate for their participants. πŸ˜… It's part of the pitch, but from chatting with some local bootcamps it definitely seems like a tough thing. Generally if you attend a design bootcamp for example, youll only be able to meet other designers and work on these planned out templated projects. So we're trying to move away from that and provide this "real practical experience" of actually working with a team, finding preliminary users (note: not customers), and making something with real impact.

With our last group we actually have seen two groups continue to work on their project. At the end of the day though not everyone is an indie hacker! Aka just because you can launch a product doesn't mean you can do marketing, sales, business development... Or even want to! You're definitely going down the same thought paths I continue to go down though. πŸ˜‚

      Thanks again!!!
