Landing page feedback - getting beta testers for an AI tool

Hey Indiehackers! 👋

In the spirit of launching fast and often, I posted my product Capy: https://www.usecapy.com/ on r/SideProject and got pretty good responses (>5K views, and 97% upvotes). However, only a few of visits actually signed up.

I am wondering if my landing page is conveying the product clearly, and if I can improve it so more people want to try the tool. The goal is to give real time recommendations, prompts, and signals during a video meeting or a sales call.

I want to show the value clearly, and would love feedback on:

  • landing page and design
  • do you know what the value prop is
  • would you sign up? Why/why not?

Any feedback is much appreciated. Thank you 🙏

    Your tool sounds extremely exciting!

I can give you one piece of advice for the headline that may change the perspective of the whole lander:

    • What's the biggest pain your tool solves?

Once you have, change your headline to:

    "Never XXX pain again"

Try that and split-test your conversions. You might get surprised.

Btw, this will challenge you to focus on the user and not the features of what you provide.

    1. 1

      Thanks for the feedback!

You're right about finding the one pain point! I'm making this the top priority for the landing page changes. My current plan is to speak with a lot more users so I can actually solve for a major pain point, rather than focus on features.

      1. 3

Yeah, I felt exactly that when I landed on your page...

The tool is cool, but what urgent pain does it solve?

        Wish you luck in there!

      2. 1

This feels creepy writing this but could your product act as a silent monitor that a manager could refer to later? It could create summary notes, or even highlights from the meeting and give statistics to the manager about participation levels and other metrics. As a manager, I would be interested in having insight into meetings my reports attending that I did not. I wouldn't necessarily have to even review them always but if a report of mine told me something of interest occurred in a meeting, I could review the output from your product, maybe?

I agree too that the tool seems very exciting.

        1. 1

Are your reports engineers? And you want to view a summary of a meeting to see what occurred? Or would it be more stats on who participated, etc 🤔

I haven't thought of this use case actually! I mainly thought of sales calls, and sales managers reviewing meetings or coaching.

Hey Claudia! This looks really interesting.

    Here are my 2 cents:
At first glance, it seems like a very advanced and techy solution
Oftentimes with these types of products, the potential user is only aware that they have a problem, and not that a solution already exists (yours!). *

So in this case, I am not sure what is the problem I have, while reading all about the characteristics of the product. They sound cool, But I can't imagine the use case.

Does that make sense? Hope it helps.

*if you want to read more about this, search for the 5 stages of customer awareness, as outlined by Eugene Schwartz in his copywriting classic “Breakthrough Advertising”.
    It was mind-blowing to me.

    1. 1

Thanks for the feedback! Reading several comments that mention the problem solved is unclear was really eye opening for me. I will definitely refine the value proposition so it highlights the problem solved.

Thanks for suggested "Breakthrough Advertising"- will check it out! 🙏

  3. 3

The page looks simple and clean!
Adding my suggestions as an image (https://share.cleanshot.com/DxvsgHt8)

Designed a new landing page with

    • Focus on elevating your pitch
    • Showcasing the product better
    • Change of copy for the button

    Let me know your thoughts

    1. 1

Wow I love the new image!! (and cleanshot looks like a super useful tool by the way). Where did you find the zoom icons? I'd love to use your hero image design if you're ok with it! 😄

Highlighting the right words "personal AI copilot" makes the product clearer! Do you think "get early access" conveys that it's ready today, or is it acceptable to use instead of "waitlist"? We have an early version, but want to work with some initial users to refine it first!

      1. 1

Cleanshot is a great tool! 100x better than mac's in-built screenshot feature :)
Got the SVG icons (zoom/Meets) from worldvectorlogo.com, one more great asset for SVG logos.

With too many AI tools, providing instant value will help capture attention and emails. I would recommend "Get Early Access", instead of "Waitlist", as it is more proactive and positive (ex: "Getting" is always better than "Waiting").

Happy to share the Figma file (let's connect over Twitter).

  4. 3

The landing page looks nice and simple.

    My suggestions:

    1. Benefits can be shown a bit clearly, on most occasions, the hero section should give good clarity about the benefits
    2. Try sharing them with your connections or people who are close to you and get some number of signups
    3. Show who all have signed up till now, the number could be low initially but try showcasing the benefits of your product to the right audience and they will be happy to signup

I signed up and let's go!

    1. 2

Knowing who your product is for will help you tailor your marketing efforts and product development to better meet their needs.

    2. 2

Thanks very much! I actually got the idea to post on r/sideproject from an IH post you made a few weeks ago, and have gotten some good results there!

      1. 1

So glad to hear that :)

  5. 2

Claudia, I like the idea of your product. I decided to do a technical review of your website using my product, ValidBot.com which helps web developers make sure their websites follow best practices. Here are a few things that I found:

    1. Your website is missing all of the DNS records related to email authentication. This means that emails sent from usecapy.com will likely end up in the spam folder and its possible for bad actors to spoof email from your domain name and trick your customers. I highly recommend that you setup SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, even if you don't plan to send email from your domain name. Here is more info: https://www.validbot.com/info/email-best-practices.php

    2. Your website is missing the recommended favicon images, a manifest file and a robots.txt file. I recommending adding these as it can improve SEO and brand recognition.

Here is the full report of your website: https://www.validbot.com/report/1d0f4c8d296d925b0e5b64123d6521819

If you have a minute to check it out and give me some feedback about the usefulness of ValidBot, I would greatly appreciate it.

    1. 1

Thanks for the review! I haven't purchased the email domains yet, but maybe I should if I would help with the website 🤔

      1. 2

You do not need to purchase anything extra. All you need to do is create some extra DNS records by signing into your registrar (Google Domains) and going into the DNS section.

        1. 1

Thank you! I actually built my site on Webflow and did the following 3:
Create an A record with the hostname @ and the value 23.235.33.229
Create an A record with the hostname @ and the value 104.156.81.229
Create a CNAME record with the hostname www and the value proxy.webflow.com

Any recommendations on how to create extra ones in addition to the 3?

          1. 1

Yeah, you would make a TXT record with a special value. To determine what value to put in it, you can use this wizard: https://www.validbot.com/tools/spf-dkim-dmarc-wizard.php

  6. 2

    Social proof,
It seems this would save a lot of time/productivity ->
Could also provide stats of the average time saved/productivity gained.

  7. 2

I would say the main issue here is not your copy

The main issue is the segment you're targeting. I would imagine most people on r/Sideprojects are of a specific audience which does not convert well.

I typically employ a "drop lots of comments on popular posts involving AI" strategy for my AI API Evoke, and that's been pretty helpful

    1. 1

Ah very smart to drop in your product in a non-intrusive way - I might try it!🙂

  8. 2

Hey, copywriter here with a few thoughts.

One important thing to remember when it comes to tweaking your sales messaging is to consider the quality of the traffic hitting your page.

    Because in my experience:

    ● The right audience + mediocre copy/design = conversions

    ● The wrong audience + Incredible copy/design = No conversions

So I want you to consider whether people on r/SideProject are actually in your target audience in the first place before you start redoing the landing page.

(Which I doubt they are, since its a community of people building their own projects just like you are and not people necessarily looking for a solution like the one you've presented.)

That being said, I think there's 2 main directions you can take with your messaging.

    1. Present as a B2B solution for managers that want insightful analytics for their sales team's calls.

    2. Target people making the calls by leverage your product's ability to alleviate social anxiety. Things like "Never get stuck in awkward silences again", "don't stumble over your words during the pitch", "always say the right thing at the right time"

Without knowing too much about your product and what you have planned for it, I would lean more towards #2. Just because I think that (social anxiety) is a more emotionally painful point to address and easier to connect to your audience than just abstract analytics.

I think the main headline on your hero section is good (maybe a little more specificity needed).

But I get lost in the subhead because I don't understand how "real time transcription" & "keyword highlights" will lead to more sales.

Your real time prompts feature is the one that resonates with me the most and the one I'd be most interested in using during my client calls.

A few questions I would have after reading your landing page:

Can I set specific goals before a meeting that will influence my prompts? Such as, I want to sell client on X service, I want to make sure I touch on these 3 talking points, etc...

And what platforms is it compatible with? Is this your own AI augmented call platform or can I use it with Zoom, Google Meet, Skype etc...

    Hope this helps!

    1. 1

Thanks so much for taking the time to write thoughtful feedback on the content! 🙏🙏

Agreed that I wasn't hitting the right audience- I'm going to post on a few communities with the target people, or reach out to them directly.

As to the value prop, I agree that aiming for prompts, and possibly direct people on goals and talking points would be most helpful. I'll come up with ways to really demonstrate this, and show how the solution can help.

As for platform, we're starting with a web version and will eventually build native integrations such as a zoom app!

  9. 2

The design is quite good and gives a professional feeling. It gives me a good idea of what I'm using and how it can be used in a live setting+shows off the features and how the AI would work.

The value proposition on the other hand is a bit confusing. If I'm getting it right it's a ai that'll tell me what people are feeling and will help me avoid clouding up my calendar? While also allowing for key points to be gathered quickly?

I personally wouldn't sign up because I do virtually 0 video calls but I can for sure see others using it (remote workers etc.)

    1. 2

Thanks for the feedback! The Ai is meant to provide prompts, easily highlight keywords. It won't do anything related to your calendar! But it's super helpful to know that it's confusing, will work more on clarity.

      1. 1

Alright sounds good, if did video calls I'd definitely use it!

  10. 2

Hey, first of all, the idea is very cool!

The landing page does covey the value proposition. I could understand clearly what I would be getting as a customer.

I feel you could spend more time on the overall design. Maybe, the statements mentioning the value prop could be a little bigger. But the current design looks good enough and conveys the idea.

I generally don't prefer meetings. But I think if my day to day work involves a lot of meetings, I would definitely sign up. Because, a lot of times in meetings, apart from listening to the other person, I find it difficult to take notes in parallel. And if I can only ask questions in the end, I usually miss a few things.

    1. 1

Thanks! So in your case, the two things you care about most are: taking good notes, and asking your list of questions?

      1. 2

        Yes, exactly.

And since I am one of those people who find meetings draining and would rather communicate async, I think your tools will help people like me to relax when they do have to get on to a meeting and still be effective.

  11. 2

Hi Claudia, Your tool is much more powerful than what’s written in the headline. Fix the copy and you’re doing great 🚀

    1. 1

Thank you for the encouragement! Getting the first users is always the challenging part 🙂

  12. 2

Hi, first of all seems like a really great products, here it is some feedback form my part.

I would personally change a few things on the site, for example the white space between the menu and the first text and images its too big (on desktop), you're loosing too much space there, and that translates into loosing attention.

For the word that you should highlight in blue, for me its not "every meeting", its "AI copilot", that's what your product it's bringing to the table.

I cannot see well the right side of the image in the main image, the one with your product it's a little blurry, you should probably make the right bar more big, and the image of the video smaller.

The subtitle where it says "Capy delivers real-time conversation prompts, talk ratios, and highlights to help you hit your goals." should be in line with the features that describe the product below.

In the input where it says "Email Address" I would eliminate Address and just leave email, and also in that input I would put less opacity on the words, it seems thats already written.

Great product, hope you keep going.

    1. 1

Thank you very much for the detailed feedback!🙏 I will make some UI changes and text highlight changes, as well as the main image for readability!

As to the copy and value prop, thanks for noting that it should say the same things as the 3 main product features below (we're still trying to speak to a few users to figure out the top most helpful feature- so will do a revamp there).

Updated the placeholder email address to a lighter color! 🙂

  13. 2

I had a dream about this exact idea occurring due to AI. I think its a fantastic (and a little scary) concept. Overall page is straight forward. It's already been hammered enough from the comments but you talk a lot about the features but not a lot on the actual benefits.

At the end of the day a customer looks for two things - what features does this site/app have, and why should I use it?

since u already have the features i think adding the benefits would be a fairly simple integration.

    You got this!!

    1. 1

Thanks very much! Curious what you had in mind when you pictured an AI for video meeting idea- is it AI prompts to help you know what to say?

      1. 1

No its an AI to help interview your candidates for you so you don't have to

  14. 2

Looking over the landing page it seems like a nice design, simple and to the point! I'm not a technical person so my input/views on things might not be what your looking for. With that said this is my 2 cents on some improvements.

    • Make a super clear value prop/benefit to your tool
I see this was talked about multiple times so I won't go into it much, but offering a clear benefit will help so much with your marketing efforts.

I did have one idea for your headline, instead of "Your personal AI copilot for every meeting" maybe "Get live AI feedback. For every sales call ". Could be completely off the mark just wanted to throw it out there.

One other thing I'd try out is messing around with the page layout and adding some background color. I see other people recommend some gifs and I think that would help with showing the tool more.

With that said good luck with the project!

    1. 2

Thanks for the feedback, I'm definitely considering some new headlines along with the value prop changes, and adding more compelling video/ gif !

  15. 2

I think it’s possible you were advertising at the wrong place/wrong time. Maybe the people browsing we on mobile and desktop would have converted better. Or maybe a sales subreddit or something like that would work better.

Also I think videos are huge! Especially with a product like this that’s difficult to understand unless you see it. So I would put auto playing videos on the page

    1. 1

I haven't thought of most people probably browsing on mobile, thanks for bringing that up! I've been looking into sales subreddits, but found that a lot of subreddits remove people sharing their own tools pretty quickly 😅. Will find some other good ways to reach the right people!

Yeah! Seems like video demo or even a gif would be great to communicate how the product works- will work on creating this!

      1. 2

I just went through a launch on reddit myself and it was pretty successful I got 700+ users and a handful of paid users. I did 2 runs, one was a quick proof one just to gather feedback and the second one was planned and more deliberate. I'm planning on posting my results and process on indie hackers (once I'm allowed to post:P). But in summary:

        • Post a very flashy video, they perform better
        • Post between 6-8am EST
        • For your tool, don't post on weekends probably wait till Sunday or weekdays since you want to catch people during work
        • Post in several places but don't spam. You just need one to go viral

You can see my account for reference, but I recommend looking at someone that successfully launched a similar tool and copy them:
        https://www.reddit.com/user/v_cantu

        1. 1

Wow congrats on the launch and thanks for the tips! Really smart of you to post your AI product in ChatGPT and OpenAI forums, look forward to your results post here.

By the way I believe once you're on IH for over a week you'll get promoted so you can upvote and post 😄

  16. 2

Hey, just went through the landing page. Main problem that I could see was that the main hero section did not convey the value proposition.

-> One quick-fix could be to just replace the image with a video or a gif that tells what a user can expect

    1. 1

Thanks for the feedback, seems like several people also agree that a video/gif would work best here! I'll be sure to create and add a high quality gif 🙂

  17. 2

Love it! I think in the hero landing page, maybe make that screenshot of Zoom bigger.
Put it under the main text maybe... it's a bit hard to see what the product really offers because that image is hard to read.

    1. 1

Thanks for pointing this out! Upon seeing your comment and checking the landing page again, I see that the Zoom person takes up the majority of the landing page, and the text prompts are barely visible. Will make some updates!

  18. 2

I'm not entirely sure of the value prop but I can see it being useful for sales calls - at least that was my first thought. I would suggest replacing the first screenshot with a video.

    1. 1

Yeah! Sales calls are definitely what we're focused on. Love the video idea, and I think that for V2 of the landing page I will make clearer the benefits "for sales calls".

      1. 2

Cool! Let me know if I can help with anything on the data side btw, I run https://deepdivedata.agency

  19. 2

Landing page looks clean, I like the name, logo and color. I really like the product idea although right now it seems like something nice to have but it doesn’t directly “solve a problem” in my opinion.

The thing is, there’s so much you can do with the idea ie. meeting summarizer or even laying the meeting textually on a timeline to show who said what and when. I wish you good luck and success, keep up building!

    1. 1

Thanks very much, based on your personal experience, what's the one thing that would be the most value add during meetings?

Yeah! I've seen a lot of cool products/ ideas around meeting transcription, summarization such as fathom.video and fireflies. They mostly provide a ton of info after the call- which inspired me to work on providing "in-call" data, but you're totally right that providing real-time help has to solve a burning problem for people to want to try it.

  20. 2

I like your idea! Suggest adding gifs and moving images to demonstrate the points better.

    1. 1

Thank you! Seems like a few people also agree with this, will work on getting a high quality gif 🎬

  21. 2

First of all, congrats on building Capy! Your LPs is cool!

    Here are some minor feedback:

    • The hero section doesn't highlight the right words. I would highlight personal AI copilot instead.
    • The hero doesn't state the main benefit of the solution. You are selling the feature but not the problem it fixes.
    • The hero image is not clear. I would magnify the messages on the right side (since that's your product in action) instead of people's faces in the meeting.
    • In the below section, you are describing the features of your product not the problems you are solving. The copy is feature centric instead of problem centric.

    Best of luck!

    1. 1

Thanks for the super helpful feedback! 🙂 The hero section highlight makes sense to me. I will work on a better hero image/ video, and definitely need to make changes to make it problem-centric.

  22. 2

Feature 01 make it clear what yur product actually does. Hero section is confusing.

here is the description of your tool after doing some chatgpt-fu

The Sales Call Feedback and Suggestions Tool is an innovative solution that helps salespersons to improve their video call performance by providing real-time feedback and suggestions during the call. By analyzing the live video call, the tool identifies potential objections and provides suggestions on how to address them, as well as prompts the salesperson to cover all necessary product points. The tool is easy to use and integrates seamlessly with popular video conferencing platforms. Overall, this tool is a game-changer for salespersons looking to make a more compelling sales pitch, overcome objections, and close more deals.

    would you signup?
No. I already prepare notes and keep them on side during meetings to ensure that everything is covered so don't see the utility right now.

    1. 1

Thanks for the feedback! Do you have a site where you can input the website url and get a gpt summary?

The gpt description is actually pretty good, 😆 might use one or two descriptions from it!

  23. 2

The design is just loveable. Looks nice. I would possibly change the static image with a gif/video that shows how it works in real-time.

When it comes to value proposition, it was not clear at first, as I thought it is like a real-time agenda while doing the meeting and then trying to push me in the right direction.

On the second read how I understood the value prop: the app analyzes what everyone is saying in the meeting and then gives directions, notes etc. - can you confirm I got it right?

If so, maybe the message should be clear so I get it on the first read.

Let me know if I can help more!

    1. 1

Thank you very much for the help! The first value prop is that it can give the user real time prompts to navigate the conversation. Surfacing an agenda or playbook is something we thought of as well- but I agree that trying to show too many use cases/ features takes away from the message. I'll work on making it clearer 🙏

  24. 2

The landing page looks neat and here are some of my suggestions:

    1. The hero section can be more visually catchy, e.g. a larger demo pic and maybe make it a gif. I found it hard to see what the pic shows.

    2. The first feature is what attracts me to sign up. Maybe focus on elaborating a bit more and show some use cases.

    3. Use another example pic for the third feature to show what the feature does more clearly. It's not quite clear to me.

Here's the landing page of my product https://www.teamie.ai/ (also AI-related) and perhaps it can give you some insights. I really like your idea and I'd love to follow up with your updates :)

    1. 1

Thanks for your feedback and for sharing your product! I like the idea and interactive front page of teamie. ai!

It's also super interesting that you launched the waitlist on PH, wondering whether you thought that was helpful! I've always thought that most of the PH launches are ready-to-use and many are mature products. 👀

      1. 2

I decided to launch on PH to gain some initial exposure, validate the idea, and get some users on our waitlist while we are in the development phase. Although we didn't get as much exposure as ready-to-go products, we got some traffic and a few users on our waitlist. I would definitely recommend it if you have similar ideas :)

  25. 2

    Here are my thoughts,

    1. Benefits aren't clear until one starts scrolling. If 'What will it do for me?' jumps on my face, then I'm more likely to scroll down to read more.
    2. I would focus on 1 Feature - Recommendations / Conversation Prompts and lead everything from there. Starting with a Pain Question might be a good way to intrigue people and get them to read more.
    1. 1

Thanks for the suggestion! Recommendations/ prompts are definitely the key features we had in mind when we started building the product- will emphasize that (and the pain point) a lot more in V2 of the landing page!

  26. 2

It's look nice from my side.

  27. 2

Hey, first of all the website looks nice enough! So some background: I am in meeting a lot(!) The first sentiment I am catching is a big "nice to have" vibe. And not a mission critical one. I think it would help if my direct and convincing benefit of using your product would be more clearly described. Good luck < 3

    1. 1

Thanks so much for the feedback! That makes a lot of sense, and might explain why a lot of people viewed but didn’t feel the need to try.

Will work on speaking with users to figure out what value prop is actually solving a big pain point!

  28. 2

By the way, here is the post showing usecapy.com on r/SideProject (https://www.reddit.com/r/SideProject/comments/11lgpef/side_project_started_this_weekend_real_time/)

The SideProject subreddit is really maker-friendly, and generally encouraging! 🙂

  29. 1

Amazing....👌 Your design gives a professional feeling.

  30. 1

At first glance, it doesnt look like something unique. But the landing page looks good.

  31. 1

Looks very professional. I am not sure why I need this though. Meetings feel
busy enough without a tool suggesting more things to do.

Maybe this isn’t what that is? If I want AI to help me with meetings it would do stuff like:

    • look at everyones calendars, chat to everyone to arrange a time

    • transcribe meetings, index them for search later on

    • fix audio issues automatically!

    • close personal info like my bank balance before I screen share

    • for standups tell me who isn’t there and why

But I don’t want more notifications to read and close. Too many of those already! Information overload at work,
help me to reduce cognitive load.

  32. 1

Agreed on most of the comments here Claudia. I like the design and the readability, in fact it's made me embarrased of my landing page launch (building it at present and taking way too long 🤮)

However the copy could do with some improvement... main thing being - it's unclear what you're solving for? Why do I want this?

    1. 1

Thanks for the note! Definitely will work on improving copy to focus on what i'm solving for.

What are you using for landing page? I built mine on Webflow, happy to share a few good templates I found on there if interested.

      1. 2

That'll be why i'm wasting time :'( My inner engineer is so anti-no-code but i'm learning this year that its contributing to my slow lead times and overworking.
