Landing Page For Basicly

https://basicly.io

Hey IHs,

I work in video production and over the years I've run into different issues when working with clients. One problem that kept repeating was getting paid after delivering the final videos to the client. And sometimes I'd wait 4-6 weeks for an invoice to get settled.

The idea for Basicly came about in order to help expedite the process of getting paid by a client when a project is completed.

I'd love to hear what you guys think about the landing page, design and overall service.

It looks like a mobile site first thus, looks kinda off on a computer.

    1. You should add overflow:hidden; to the footer so that ugly horizontal scroll doesnt not show up.
    2. Second thing you should do is add some padding to the navbar and the content.
    3. Change the font size.
Nr 2, 3 will make reading the content so much more easier and enjoyable.

These are good technical remarks - thank you! Will def make some changes to further improve readability and desktop user experience.

    Hey Alex,

Your business idea is cool. And its good that you're trying to solve a problem that you've experienced.

    But

    1. The intro video moved wayyy too fast for me to comprehend (I just woke up so it was alot to take in lol)

    2. You might want to shorten "Who We Are" to something more punchy and concise. People want to get "it" as quickly as possible. Remember: People "scan" websites, they don't read.

    3. I imagine making the "What We Do" section into bullet points will make it easier to consume.

I enjoyed the step-by-step "How It Works" graphic at the end. Cool stuff man.

I recommend this book on web design: "Don't Make Me Think" by Steve Krug 📖
It basically teaches the principles of how to make a website as easy to digest as possible to make it a delightful experience for the user.

Good luck man. Hope you find success :)

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. I appreciate it! The book sounds very relevant. Will def add it to my reading list :)

    The product looks amazing.

    Feedback:

The initial video is too fast, like way too fast. My initial reaction was just close the page. The speed looks ok when the narrator voice is on but not that good when when is muted (and it's on auto play)

I think the content in the page is correct and a better order could be:

    • Basicly 1.0
    • How it works
    • Video with play button
    • Who we / what we do
    • What we believe in

I hope you don't mind, I copy/pasted a these sections and put them together in a figma file

Thanks so much for your feedback and for taking the time to reorganize the content! That's awesome! :)

Maybe I missed it upfront but I felt you took a million years to explain (in the text..I haven't watched the video) what is it that Basicly does.

I kept scrolling and scrolling to find out how "Delight your clients, grow your brand and get paid on time" all tied together.

    On a laptop btw.

Thank you for your feedback! Will def make some tweaks to improve the copy and structure of the site.

Nice product idea. Some comments on the landing page:

    • The video is fast, started out blurry for me, and does not fully fit on my somewhat small screen laptop. I understand that video is what you do :) but better put it somewhat down.
    • You have to be aware that you have just a few seconds to grab the casual visitor's attention. So the first thing they see should be visually appealing, and explain your value proposition as clearly as possible. The tagline below "what we believe in" sounds great for this, though you should get "video maker" in there somehow.
    • There's an "about" link in the header, but you probably want to have all the "about" stuff on your main page. (I now see that it actually links to the main page, which is confusing IMO.)
    • The font is very wide, which works well for the headers, but IMO less well for the text.
    • It seems that you don't have a free version or a trial period, which means that your users don't really know what they're buying. Have a read on this post on cognitive biases.

Awesome! Thanks so much for your input - all valid points!! Great article too on the cognitive biases. Very informative :)

    Nice landing page.

    • I wouldn't start with a video, or I would have it further down after having a header and subheader explaining the product
    • Clear the navbar, have maybe Pricing, login and change sign up to "Start Now" or something similar
    • Not a fan of the 25% discount everywhere
    • Get rid of the "What the first version will look like." and add the images to How It Works section.

I also recommend moving your app site to app.basicly.io, will save you a lot of time in the future.

    Some quick questions :)

    • Where did you get the illustrations from? Custom designed?
    • Did you build the landing page from scratch?
    • If so how long did it take?
    • What problems did you have building it?
    • Why didn't you use templates or a landing page builder?
    1. 1

Thank you for your feedback! You make some really good points.

      Sure, so:

      1. The illustration are from Adobe stock and the mockups for Basicly were custom designed
      2. Yep! The build took about 3 days, but I already had all the assets in place and an outline.
      3. No problems really... just wanted to keep it basic and get some feedback
      4. I prefer the blank page for its clean start. That said, I did consider a landing page builder (Instapage) but didn't want to spend too much time figuring out how it works and integrations and defaulted to what I already knew

Good job. Regards landing page design:

    • The video in header is very fast that you can't read the text.
    • I might change the font-family and font-weight of the content. It's too bold, but it's not bad.
    • Your CTA form needs some attention such as making the form larger, adding vertical space or changing background color.
    • In footer, vertical spacing is not aligned.
    1. 1

Thank you! Yes, I def need to slow that down a bit!! Do you think adding a name field to the CTA would be too much?

      1. 1

I'd say yes. Don't add frictions in registration process. Once the visitor clicked on CTA button, you might ask him in another form or leave it until the user fill his name in profile page.

        1. 1

          Yep, makes sense. Thank you!
