Landing page is up! MVP coming in a few weeks.

I had the idea for Influx years ago, the only thing holding me back originally was not being technically able to build it.

Over the years I went through 3 different developer friends who all wanted to help out, and within weeks got busy and disappeared. Got my development skills up to par enough to finally build a decent MVP. Hope to launch it in a few weeks.

The idea is a marketplace which allows existing sellers to display their products, without forcing them to actually sell through Influx. No pushing to "jump ship" from the platform they already use, simply a chance to spread their products reach without having to pay 2 sets of monthly fee's, transaction costs etc.

Happy to answer any questions. Feedback on the landing page appreciated.

Hey, I really like your landing page!
It looks very professional but maybe your call to action button need to stand out more.

    Regarding developer friends:
I have more or less the same problm, but most of the time, I don't find anyone who wants to work on something.

If you like, we could chat sometime.
Simply contact me if you want.

    Greetings,
    Chris

Thanks for the kind words. Also agree regarding the CTA, will test out some alternative versions tonight :).

I find there are two stages:
Finding people with enough time to help
Finding people with enough time, and are also interested enough in the idea.

Both hard hurdles. However places such as IndieHackers is perfect to try help with this.

      I'll send over a message later :)

the landing page looks very good. I would add more space between the sections.

      Agreed, thanks Luqa :)

I think this is a great idea!! My wife hosts products on Etsy and Ebay so she will be very interested. Landing page looks great, maybe the accordion could be a little easier to see somehow but I'm nit-picking really.

    All the best.

Hi @keith_codes. Sounds like exactly the target audience I am looking for, hope she finds it helpful once we launch :).

Thanks for the feedback, I've been doing a heatmap and I think I need to increase the clickable area too, will update it shortly :)

    Great landingPage my friend.
The design is clean and fresh. You've kept it short (great! not too much scrolling) which for me is never good for a landing page.
Finally you can find out information about your product easily, probably one of the most important factors :)

Thanks @warwickhacker91. I originally had a lot more sections and looking back at the old design, it was far too much. I have a habit of adding so many extra words in my sentences than needed.... I'll stop now haha :)

This was something I was thinking of as well. But never had the time to execute. I guess the chicken and egg problem is the first thing to solve. How would you monetize it?

Hey, just seen PeemPoint ha, will drop you a message soon.

    Page looks good and professional.

I think some work needs to be done on the benefits though. If I was a merchant, I'm not sure exactly what I would get by listing on your site. I get the idea of more traffic, but I'm not sure how that is going to happen. If you have existing traffic/customers that they can benefit from, I'd push that more strongly. That is one of the challenges with a two-sided marketplaces, you need both merchants and customers to make it sustainable. If you have neither, then it makes it a harder sell for both.

    A few thoughts:

    • Focusing on a niche product or service-type could help focus your efforts.
    • Talking to existing merchants could be helpful. Be careful though, just because they complain about the fees/service/tools on existing merchants doesn't mean they are looking for another marketplace unless it can promise a lot of customers/revenue.

    Good luck!

Check your html semantics (use footer, section, main, article etc elements instead of divs everywhere). That will have a big big impact on your seo. Add some links to sign up or get in touch in your nav, thats the first place people look, add some color to your cta and add more space between your sections, best of luck :)

Also probably add another cta to the bottom of your page. Don't make your user think.

    1. 1

I'll update the html semantics for sure, agreed it makes sense for it to be using the correct markup. Didn't know quite how much SEO impact this would have, with it being just a landing page for now, makes sense for it to be effective in every way possible.

The menu at the top is a large space filled with potential, so I agree it could do with a link, will get one added.

I've had some feedback to try reduce the amount of content or at least spread it out a little better, so I'll try do this along with making the CTA's more prominent.

      Thanks for the feedback.

Some feedback I got from elsewhere which everyone with a project likely has too:

Users may not register if they feel the service doesn't already have lots of traffic, however it needs users to gain traffic. Catch 22.

It's inspiring to keep reading other posts here that people have had the same hurdles and overcome them, will continue to persevere too.

Look into 'liquidity hacking' -- what you want to do is to set up one side of the marketplace first (potentially by offering a different value proposition initially).

i.e. consider your two types of users and think about a smaller problem one of them has that you can solve (ideally using existing parts of your app). Do you have any ideas so far?

Let's take Shopify as an example. Many sellers use this platform because it gives them full control over the transactions, branding, website structure etc.

However, the only way people are going to find their store is for that store owner to do a lot of marketing, SEO, advertising etc. Every Shopify store is its own entity. You can't go on shopify.com and simply search for a "red tshirt" across all Shopify stores.

Marketplaces can provide a lot of traffic, but limited options on their profile/store etc. Also the seller must agree to the costs/terms etc of that Marketplace (£x per transaction, £x per month etc).

Sellers want the best of both worlds. Influx provides a marketplace which simply displays the products from your Shopify website. Instead of saying "you must sell with us to get your products listed here".

For my benefit of knowing if this is clear, what are your thoughts on this explanation @Primer?

      1. 1

Interesting! So in other words, the purpose of your marketplace is to simply promote the products people put on it?

      2. 1

I get the point, sounds interesting. How are you going to market this thing to end-consumers?

        1. 2

Not going to beat around the bush on this question, this is an area I still need to narrow down now further and continue to do so after launch too.

Initially, no. The purpose is for buyers to be able to find products from other stores such as Shopify, Etsy, BigCartel, custom websites etc. Therefore, I would be sending that user to the relevant store if they click "Go to product / buy".

However, further down the line when I can justify the traffic the site receives is when, instead of just displaying products from elsewhere, we'll eventually let people sell through Influx too. At this point it we hope to have already sold people on the benefits of Influx and be apart of it already too.

Our target audience for starters is existing sellers, already set up online, looking for a way for additional traffic etc.

From a buyers point of view, yes that is correct :)

They of course can then do more such as follow that store and others etc.
