I am going crazy trying to build a landing page. What is your process? Do you use builders or create from scratch?

Pretty cool resources - thanks for sharing

      1. 2

No problem, will most likely make a little longer list with the few years exp I have building landing pages.

There are some free tools etc that are very helpful.

        1. 1

That's certainly a thread / post that I'd be interested in!

      1. 1

Same here, almost missed the gem but thanks to your comment ;)

      2. 1

It is a great resource. Super simple but to the point.

Thank you .. these are awesome and will try these.

    3. 1

Loved this! Thanks a bunch! I was looking out for landing page guides to redesign my site and came across this!

    4. 1

Cheers Volkan. Appreciate the mention man :)

      1. 1

No problem, it's a great resource I have used it a ton.

        https://marketingexamples.com/inspiration is great as well

I wonder if you could make landing page guide even better.

    5. 1

I've used it. Can confirm it's great!

    6. 1

Versoly looks amazing!!. Going to try it out r8ght now.

      1. 1

+1 how did you find it? :)

    7. 1

Wow.. thanks for these links. Will check them out right away.

Use any kind of page builder, building from scratch is a total waste of time in the beginning, you will have so many changes so better to be able to do them quickly.

After you get enough traction and optimize your LP, you can consider building it from scratch to have a better loading speed.

    1. 3

I guess you are right. I have been trying to build it from scratch and I think it is as important as the product itself, but the total effort has now been ever more that the product itself :)

      1. 1

haha. ya that's the issue most of us faces I think. That's why some of them giving up validating the idea before building the product, as building a landing page seems to much hassle (specially for a developer). :P

btw. I am building a tool to solve this issue, so that you can validate as many ideas as possible, in quick time.

The landing page of the tool is almost ready. I will keep you posted. :)

        1. 3

building a landing page seems to much hassle

I thought I was the only one who felt building the landing page was more of a hassle than building the product.

          1. 1

hey man. I've launched the MVP of my landing page builder/MVP validation tool.

feel free to sign up: mixio.net :)

          2. 1

lol. seems like a market validation to me. :D
Plz do follow me on Twitter for update. :)

        2. 2

Cool. Do share when you are done ! All the best.

          1. 1

Sure. I will keep you posted. :)

btw I've followed you on Twitter. Plz feel free to follow back, so I can let you know sooner.

    2. 2

what do you think about this landing page ? nolly.io
      thanks for your feedback

      1. 1

Wow looks really nice. Good job.

  2. 4

It's already been said but @harrydry's landing page template is the bomb.

I build on Webflow with either Relume.io or in Figma first with SystemFlow.

    Process:

    1. Logo, font, color scheme chosen
    2. brand voice chosen
    3. write copy first
    4. decide which sections I need from the Relume or Systemflow library
    5. drop the sections in the doc/page
    6. input copy
    7. add in visual elements (preferably screenshots or Looms)
    8. SEO check
    9. publish
    10. QA by 3 at least people including a designer and a target customer
    11. edits
    12. done!
    1. 1

Cheers @sophia_oneal — process very solid imo

    2. 1

Wow! Thank you so much for taking the time and sharing this process. I am going to save it and follow it. Thanks!

      1. 1

        You are very welcome!

I am actually working on a tool to simplify landing page copy + design for technical founders.

Mind if I DM you about it on Twitter? I'd love for you to give it a look before I launch.

          1. 1

Thanks! It's launching on Monday, I'll send you an early bird code tomorrow.

            1. 1

Cool! All the best! You can count on my upvote.

  3. 3

I went with what I already knew and threw something together in Nuxt.js quickly. Started with just a static site collecting emails, gradually added FAQ and pricing pages, etc. There's definitely a temptation to spend too much time on the landing page, and I have to remind myself to fight that urge!

The best decision I made was using Tailwind UI so I got something nice-looking without spending too much time on it, though I imagine a good builder can help with that too.

    1. 1

I was talking to a UI developer today abd he told the same.. add pages later and start collecting customer emails!
I dont know any nuxtjs or nextjs..i will try out a simple html css page or a website builder.

  4. 3

Going with [Super.so] (https://super.so/) for landing page with PriceWell integration for monetization and early birds.

In general, I recommend going with landing page builder until much later, when you get heavier traffic and want better loading speed.

    1. 1

I am actually building a no-code landing page builder, combining the features of both of the tools that you mentioned (Super & PriceWell).

I will use Gumroad as the backend for the payment processing to take pre-orders.

You can check out my MVP here at mixio.net :)

      1. 2

        Really interesting! Love the design!😄
Some questions if you don’t mind:

        • Is it going to have an in-house payment processing solution?
Meaning: Are you configuring payments for your users? (In the pricing page section of the landing page)

        • if yes. How are you planning to configure payments? Stripe? Paddle?

        • Why Gumroad for pre-orders?

        1. 1

Hey. nice to know that you liked it. feel free to sign up and send me your product information. :)

          To answer your question, yes.
It will probably provide a painless experience for the makers. And I will also charge a commission based on their first month's sales (if any). If no sale, it's free.

I preferred Gumroad because it's very flexible and it's easy to add Gumroad product or purchase button anywhere on the website (without customers knowing about it).
so basically, your customers will feel like you are paying inside your web page.

    2. 1

Thank you.. will try this out!!

  5. 2

    Webflow 😌
Using webflow.com for a decade, and its by far the best thing, carrd.co is also awesome

    1. 1

I think I am going to use carrd.co for now..its very simple and their pricing is quite decent.

      1. 1

        Quite sexy stuff carrd is

  6. 2

We've streamlined a process for cranking out 100s of landing pages for SaaS businesses.

Keep in mind, these are not suitable for a homepage and probably wouldn't be the best option for creating just a single landing page.

    1. Come up with a template that's easy to edit and works in your industry. Get inspired by the examples of popular landing pages. Or if you have a decent budget, get a UX/UI designer on board.

    2. Carry out preliminary SEO research to break down every feature, use case, possibility, and comparison that people might search for. This gives an idea of what people want to read about on your landing page. I'm using Ahrefs for this step, but any professional SEO tool should be good enough.

    3. Add all your research to a kanban board, separating each page into a separate ticket. Then, fill these tickets with outlines, examples, competition, keywords, and marketing angles. Notion or Trello is a good shout.

    4. Start writing and producing Hero Images. Or outsource to copywriters and designers. Or use a GPT-3 Ai and subscribe to Freepik. This step depends on your budget, time, and skill.

    5. Once they're ready, publish and promote on HackerNews, IndieHackers, Reddit, Quora, and similar communities.

    6. Assess feedback and optimize underperforming pages.

You can do much more, but this process got several of our SaaS projects of the ground and into the stream of constant traffic, product improvement, and reliable revenue.

    1. 2

Thank you so much for giving this post your time and for the suggestion. Cheers!

  7. 2

I used elementor pro on wordpress. Cannot recommend it but it can be my thing. I literally hate making landing pages so I don’t think there is a builder that I would be satisfied with :)

    1. 1

:) I dont hate it but it seems the whole idea that the landing page needs to be smashing is a bit wierd and doesnt gaurantee the quality of your product.
What looks well sells well. Sad but true.

      1. 1

Yep but sadly we live in the world that judge the book by its cover. :)

  8. 2

For some reason I always end up with pure HTML and CSS. Sometimes it's a bit messy, but as it's usually just one page, it doesn't bother me that much. I just go and build something, then return and do many small iterations.

Deployment from Scratch had two previous versions and the current one was rebuilt from scratch again with HTML and CSS. I still return and do little tweaks.

    1. 1

I have been trying to do it the same way. For minimal landing pages I guess html and css is enough. Someone suggested mvp.css . I think I am going to try that.

  9. 2

I go to carrd.co built by @ajlkn and built it there in around an hour

Best product you will find for your needs.
Pro Plans are totally worth it

    1. 1

      I agree carrd is awesome.

  10. 2

I purchased a template with figma and html and modified it to some extent to ensure low code.

Builder is also a good solution, but doing it from a scratch is not a very economical approach for indie hackers.

    1. 1

Havent tried Builder yet. Will do.

  11. 2

Leadpages is more budget friendly than instapage. However, if you are ok with using templates (with less design flexibility), then you can explore landing page builders of activecampaign and convertkit.
Advantage - you can integrate their form module and send auto-responders / drip campaigns easily

    1. 1

Thank you I looked at Leadpages and instapage .. both look like nice alternatives.

  12. 2

If you're having difficulty with trying to build your web page, it might be useful to ask the following questions:

First Question: What is the call to action (CTA) on the landing page?
Second Question: What is your strategy to convert the visitor (i.e. have them do the CTA)?

For example, I am working on a new project and I will be creating a landing page for it. This is how I will answer the above two questions:

First Answer: The CTA will be "sign up for the waiting list" because I want to personally onboard each customer to the product and limit growth to early adopters only.

Second Answer: I am working on a productivity management tool for small teams, which is a crowded space that I am trying to carve my own segment. The value proposition is more "show" than "tell" because the visitor does not need to be convince that they have this problem (e.g. trying to create a new segment), rather than I need to convince them that this particular execution solves the problem better. An observation in user testing is that a written or spoken description of the product was not very effective, but people picked up on its value quickly when they got a chance to use it. The product has a "more than a sum of its parts" aspect to it which makes describing it difficult. This may be more of my own failing as a wordsmith, but I have to work with what I got.

Approach: Spend energy on a 60 to 100 second video to explain the product. The landing page itself will be pricing, FAQ and other fiddly bits - so something basic will be fine initially. I'll probably use a page builder or something like mvp.css (https://andybrewer.github.io/mvp/) just to get something up quickly.

    1. 1

wow thanks for taking the time and giving your suggestion. It helps. I am actually going to write down the answers to the 2 questions. mvp.css seems really cool and simple..might be the perfect candidate.

      1. 1

It'd be cool if you can share your answers :)

        1. 1

My CTA would be : Provision and manage local developer environments.

The answer to the sexond question would be: give 99% of the product for free and make it open source. Get enough developers interested and ask them to report issues and feature requests. That 1% percent feature is kept as a todo item and will require money and time. I will charge 5 dollars flat per month for that feature.

          1. 1

If this is an open-source project, why isn't a well-written readme file sufficient? That seems like the lowest effort MVP and github stars/downloads given your CTA

  13. 2

I tend to build with Jekyll for static-ish sites to host on github for speed and lowest possible cost. There are some free Jekyll themes for landing pages that you can make slight adjustments to.

    1. 1

thanks..was hoping to use something much simpler. You are right about the multitude of free stuff available for jekyll.

  14. 2

    Pick a template. Use Webflow.

    1. 1

Thanks will try it out today. I am trying out carrrd right now.

      1. 2

Carrd is great as a starting point. Stick with it initially.

        1. 1

Yes it has lot of templates and its really easy to edit them.

  15. 2

I recently tried Cloudcsnnon. Super easy, and if you are a tech,.it is using Jekyll so you can take it over later

    1. 1

      Thanks. Will try it out.

  16. 2

I just do something simple to start, using something I know perfectly how to use, WordPress. That's what I did for KatLinks.

Once the MVP starts taking shape and the final features are determined, I ramp up the landing page and continue to improve over time.

Don't get too caught up at the beginning, landing pages have to always continue evolving.

    1. 2

Thanks.I am already done with the mvp and I had idea to keep everything in one single unscrollable page. Now Inhave more textual content and the page looks like an article :( hard to cut down on the text and add some jazz. But it should look good. I am trying..

  17. 2

Before the technical details, you need a plan. Who is the audience, what is their problem, how is your product/service helps them?

Last time, I've reread many times Alex Garcia's tweet and a few competitors web pages. Then I've created this mind map. So, this is the result.

For the techical parts, we use Frappe Framework for all our efforts.

    1. 1

Thanks for the mindmap.. the website looks clean and crisp.

  18. 2

I imagine that it varies depending on experience?

What experience do you have? If you don't have a development background then I'd suggest a low-code / no-code solution.

    1. 1

I have good amount of experience as a backend / cloud engineer. UI is where i fail and I kind of have a mental block when writing UI. I am going to try a no code platform.

      1. 1

I'd highly recommend webflow.io to get you started

  19. 2

Build from scratch since i can't resist to design weird stuff x)

    1. 2

I feel the same. Its an itch. I never feel website builders will do justice, but thats clearly not the case. Ibam going to try a no code platform.

      1. 2

I relying 50% on Webflow since i’ve learn Vue JS. Cause in fact, no code builder replace the coder, not the designer.

  20. 2

You can look at instapage, leadpages, carrd

    1. 1

Thanks I was looking at instapages for a while..looked interesting.

    1. 1

Is the experience same as figma ?

      1. 1

I'm afraid I've never used Figma so this isn't something I can comment on

  21. 2

Hey @Raiyanyahya - I'm curious to know if you'd consider having someone built a page for you based on your needs at the price of no-code builders? Like say $9.99/mo? If yes, let's discuss, I'm developing a service in this space; and I'd love to talk to you.

    1. 1

Sure I am looking at nocode builders. We can talk and exchange ideas.

      1. 1

I'll shoot up an email to discuss. I hope that's okay. Thanks!

  22. 2

As a developer tailwindcss+nextjs. Not really optimized. At first, it would be better with a no-code tool.

    1. 1

Seems like the common opinion. Thanks.

  23. 2

Normally I build quick landing pages use a Static Web App with Vue & something like devdojo.com/tails/app or TailwindUI.

However, I've build justvalidate.it 2 week ago (as a challenge) for when I just need a quick page & collect subscribers!

    1. 2

Nice the websitw was superfast and crisp. Thanks for the suggestion.

  24. 2

Do you struggle with design or the marketing part? If you need help with landing page copywriting, this book helped me a lot in the past: https://www.amazon.com/Websites-that-Convert-fundamentals-compelling-ebook/dp/B06Y3L3W84/

    1. 1

Its mostly design. My landing pages look like crap. Inhave started writing down everything I need on the landing page. Once the text has been decided, I will continue with image assets. Thanks for the suggestion.

  26. 1

If you’re looking to test a few ideas very quickly with no dev effort then https://mocker.app might be useful. It’s still invite only but code EARLY22 will get you in

Thank you so much fornall your comments. I will summarize everything and share it on this post for other people.

I like the part where you mention "What do I want to tell people about my product now?" I completely forgot about this while designing the page..it was all about illustrations and icons and font :)
