Hi folks,
I'm closing in on the beta release of my latest product.
A bit of background
The original flagship feature was a no-code tour builder, along the lines of Appcues, UserGuiding and a quite a lot of others. Most of these products cost upwards of $150pm, I believe I can make it work at a fraction of that.
I gave it the working title of Tournado. I like to get a logo on an app while developing, even if it ends up changing later.
In the interest of releasing sooner rather than later, the product will launch with the tour builder (which also doubles as an notice/announcement system when using single modals/popovers), user integration, some targeting options, and basic reporting/analytics.
So far so good for the name Tournado.
Following the initial release I'll be adding a "What's new" widget and associated CMS along the lines of AnnounceKit or Headway. Tours/modals and What's new make a lot of sense to admin from the same product.
After that, along with extending targeting/integration and reporting options it makes sense to add features that leverage the same tech and client admin processes like help tips and other in/on page notices & information.
And finally to the question...
I'm having a last minute change of heart about the name Tournado (for which I own tournadoapp.com and tournado.app).
Pro:
Con:
Just the one - Tour isn't generic enough to be a good name for all the features that will follow the initial release
I have a spare domain name usercomms.com from another project I didn't progress with. I don't think it's such a nice word in itself, but arguably it describes everything that might be added to my product: every bit of help, whats new update, tip, or tour are a communication to the user.
Does anyone get good or bad vibes from either name, given my description of the product?
I know I can just launch with any name and change it later. But since it uses 3rd party JS tags, leverages CDNs and custom SSL etc. Changing later is an inconvenience I'd like to avoid.
Looking forward to your feedback, thanks! :)
(As a developer) I think the tournado branding is great. I wouldn't find it confusing if I found out you also offered other closely related features.
Maybe you could release your products as a kind of bundle, where each major service has its own branding and they all integrate. Then usercomms could be the name (or just the domain) for the umbrella org / point of sale for your bundle.
Thanks for the reply! I thought my post got lost in the daily IH news cycle :)
I'm glad you've said what I was leaning towards myself. "Whats new" is still a tour of sorts... potentially triggering an associated tour from each update 🤩
Best to push on and get some real users before overthinking the broader future.
I hadn't considered branded bundles. If/when things to get that far it could be a nice idea to keep existing bundles under a new brand rather than replacing them - nice one!
Not gonna get ahead of myself, but I do like everything to 'make sense', it puts me at ease to continue pushing. Maybe its a developer thing :)
Thanks again @pending
