Pick your niche and write blog posts
- The more you write about travel-related stuff, the more Google looks at you as the expert in the field and tries to rank your blogs higher.
Keyword research
- Based on how well-established your website is, you need to choose easy, medium, or hard keywords to rank. For starters, it is better to focus on easy ones because it is easier to rank. However, you need to make sure your keyword has "search volume" - if nobody searches for it, there is no point in ranking higher.
- It is also important to look for keywords that aren't taken up by sponsored pages on top of a search engine's page.
H1 title and meta description
- ....are important for getting clicks because these are the tags users see on search results. Optimizing them with keywords and "clickbait" words can increase CTR.
Tip: words such as "top," " best," and "2023" in the title can have a great impact on visibility
Content is king!
- The content itself is really important. Your blog posts will rank higher if it is actually helpful and relevant to the user.
Good content = lower bounce rate, more engagement time = higher rank

I think how much good content you have, without backlinks, won't reach the right audience. Rather than using Haro and other sites, engaging with website owners and writers is the way to bring the backlinks which support the blog.
While you do have a point, we've been doing just fine without any backlinks. The only backlinks we get are from PR getting Ratepunk mentioned in various articles, and that's not even remotely connected to the blog.

How do I know what category to put the words in? If it's easy, then that's on fewer websites. Do I understand this correctly?

You can use keyword research tools like Google Keyword Planner, SEMrush, or Moz Keyword Explorer to get insights into the search volume and competition levels for specific keywords. Look for keywords with a decent search volume that are relevant to your content, and try to start with the easier ones as you build your blog's authority. Over time, as your blog gains traction and authority, you can gradually target more competitive keywords.
