Launch on Product Hunt - Epic Fail!

I posted my product Motion Storyline on Product Hunt one week ago today - and it was a complete failure! I am more writing this blog post really to document my progress for myself, but maybe someone reading can learn from my mistakes.
After reading thoughts on blog posts from other founders, a better strategy would have been to reach a certain point in collecting email signups, product followers, etc and have something to build momentum from. The exposure provided by Product Hunt would have both fed off the current users and gained much more exposure and momentum.

However, in an attempt to "launch" and get to an absolute minimum product, I posted it in a basically unusable state. It communicated the idea behind what it would potentially be to see it this generated interest, but it was not really usable. Of course no real interest was generated in the form of actual users, maybe (hopefully) people seeing the website mentally bookmarked it for future revisitation, but no actual users were acquired. So an opportunity was wasted.

In the future I will plan a launch announcement a bit more carefully, and not forego the value of momentum, which requires careful timing.

Thanks for posting, it's good to read approaches that didn't work as wished.
