I've launched Djinn CI a CI SaaS some time ago, and just lately gotten around to trying to show it off to people. Posting to relevant communities such as HN and Reddit. The problem with this though, is that I don't have a large enough platform to reach out to people. What's the best strategy I could take to growing my platform, and acquiring users in a way that doesn't come off as shameless self-promotion?
I would create alot of similar guides:
How to set up laravel ci for aws.
How to set up laravel ci for gcp
How to set up django ci for aws
How to set up django ci for gcp
(And just do that for every tech stack and deployment platform). Then you can monitor twitter, stackoverflow, etc and when someone asks about it you can answer relevantly and link to the post.
Hey Andrew, congrats on launching your SaaS. No small feat!
I assume that since you've created a product in the CI space that you're opinionated about this area of tech.
My suggestion would be to participate in discussions and communities around CI/CD. Share your knowledge about how companies can do CI well, or how they can get started with CI if they aren't already doing it. Twitter, Quora, and HN could be good places to start building your platform.
In particular, I would focus on the areas that make Djinn CI different to competitors - this will give you natural opportunities to work in references to your product without seeming self promotional.
Lastly, where do your intended users hang out? If you don't know, then it's important to answer this question.
Once you figure this out, go where they are and become a valuable member of the community by helping people and sharing your knowledge.
For example, you could create the Indie Hacker's guide to CI/CD as a way to provide value to the IH community (assuming IH is a place where some of your intended users hang out).
The answer is lots of content marketing, but educational content. There is a big difference between sales content and educational guides as people have described below.
However the best option is to host all of this content on your own site and simply link or DM the resources you want to share to people when individually when they request more information.
Not only does this help add a personalized touch to the interaction which may help push some visitors into the opportunity pipeline, but it will also help avoid having your content removed or ignored, such as on platforms like Reddit where most Redditors don't appreciate long-form articles because they come across as self-promotion 99% of the time. Hope this helps!
Hey - congratulations 👏🎉
First of all - make sure to provide valuable insights with your content to groups you consider the best customers for your product.
Tell them how your product can resolve their struggles in an innovative way.
you need to do it so that it doesn't looks like a self promotion actually i don't consider telling about the relevant product as promotion or self promotion if i happen to be the owner of the product. When there is a discussion about ci in these forums you can inform people that there is a product available for it i.e. djinn ci and people can use it and if there are any shortcomings you would love to take feedback.
I would also highlight in my blog how this product is better from github actions or circle ci i.e. your competeitors.
