Interesting. Am I missing out on some context?

  2. 4

Is it as cute as my face?

    1. 1

      No. Not nearly.

  3. 3

This looks absolutely amazing, I wish if there was a way I can actually integrate this through an API to use it like a random user profile image placeholders.

Can be a good by product!!

  4. 3

Love it, wish I could download SVGs of the faces!

    1. 1

What would you use them for?

  5. 3

Definitely easy to use and understand. What is the story behind this app? I am curious.

I was talking with a friend who is a game dev about the constraints of low-res graphics. We had a disagreement on how many pixels you would need to represent a good range of human faces. He thought 3x3 would be enough.

I wanted to prove or disprove that. It turns out 3x3 is not really enough, you need 4x4. To show this, I wrote a VB script that would make a random face in Excel out of layers of head shape, hair, highlights, etc.

We both thought it would make a neat website, but he refused to program it for me. In a fit of pique I decided to do it myself :)

I also put a plug for my little newsletter about constraints. This is the kind of thing I would feature in the newsletter. Because of the constraints in the pixel faces, and also the fact that I tried to create the site from start to finish in one day.

      1. 2

You might want to explain that on the site, before I read that I had no idea what the newsletter thing was for

What a great story, love it!

    Super creative!

Nice idea and congratulations on the launch!

I think the faces could be slightly more detailed.

If you mean higher resolution, then no :) I explained why in a different comment.

If you mean other ways to vary the pixels, then yes. I would love to get more things in there. Shades of hair for instance.

Interesting and nice compact use of pixels! I thought though that we might be able to right-click and "save-as" an image of all or individual faces for our own projects. Or perhaps a button to download them. You could also have a slider for Width/Height so you could present them in a grid of W/H. Cool idea.

Wow, that face looks exactly like mine, except it's cute.

We should combine products to make a "cute little pixel faces who worked on this github project" :D

This is super creative, I love it. Well done.

A good use case would be 'X people can't be wrong' with an embed? https://pixelfaces.io/?faces=X

Thanks for sharing this experiment. For a few weeks, I've been floating the idea of adding similar faces to https://midnight.pub to represent the users. I love the fact that it's so simple anyone could draw their own face, no need to be an artist. Thanks for proving that!

Nice! So when's Pixel bodies coming?

  14. 1

I like the one with the lime green earrings.

    1. 2

      Me too.

And I like the one that looks like Mr. T.

  15. 1

Hi Todd, what is the idea behind this exactly?🤔

  16. 1

Love it. Feel like you could do lot's of interesting stuff with this.
