Launched Jello 🚀 Invite people to temporary group chats, no sign ups

Hello IH! 👋

Im happy to announce the launch of Jello (tryjello.com), create disposable group chats for one-off events and convos!

Invite who you need for events, team meetings, or planning a day out. Avoid the hassle of creating extra group chats and cluttering your main messaging app.

You can create a chat in one click, share a single link, no sign-up or personal details required for participants to join 🚀

Jello has 4 simple goals:

🎯 Help keep your primary messaging app free from dead group chats
🎯 Bring everyone together from the plethora of social apps that exist today
🎯 Sharing experiences from weekly group activities or communities
🎯 Create inner circles within larger group chats

If you like the idea, any feedback or support on our PH launch would be appreciate! (https://www.producthunt.com/posts/jello-create-temporary-group-chats)

clever idea - I can't remember how many dead groupchats I have in my social medias haha. I also think its ability to use the app without an account is good for encouraging user engagement.

Thanks for the kind words Jeebz!!🤝

the biggest phenomenon ive seen is people "feel rude" for leaving a GC, so theres this habit of not leaving GCs and now ur messenger app is full of dead group chats

We've put 24h chat timers (changeable upto a month) as a default on all chats, the chat ends in 24h, disappears from ur history 48h after being created

I'd love to know if you see urself using Jello for person, professional or for business reasons

Thanks for the feedback, it means alot

yeah I understand what you mean by not leaving GCs for risk of "feeling rude", it's quite an annoying feeling.

I would see myself perhaps using Jello for personal business, as I am quite keen on meeting with groups of friends, which this app would be useful for.

That's why I think the product can be so far reaching: because it can be helpful for a wide audience of people rather than a select few.

Thanks! This is one of the few projects that came out our BuildInDiscord server. Would love to know if you find yourself needing disposable chats

That seems to be the "Snapchat" of Group Chats.

What's the deal with privacy. are the chats ACTUALLY deleted from your database or just marked as deleted?

    1. 1

We don't use the word "delete" in any of our copy or description of the app. We use "temporary" and "disposable", meaning the chat expires or gets made useless

We're currently heavily considering to delete the chat completely from the DB - but Jello was initially created for customer support so we wanted an Archive section incase businesses needed to reaccess the chat

Do you feel that deleting the data would be an important feature?

Do you feel that deleting the data would be an important feature?

        In 2023? yes.

I really don't see the customer support angle here. Customer support will happen on dedicated customer support channels, not ephemeral chats.

In short I think it's essential that these be removed from the database. if people want them saved in perpetuity then let them create an account.

        Also on this:

We don't use the word "delete" in any of our copy or description of the app. We use "temporary" and "disposable", meaning the chat expires or gets made useless

to me reading that as a user both "temporary" and "disposable" allude to the chats disappearing aka deleted.
