💬Launched my consulting website - give me your honest feedback!

I've really enjoyed being part of IH community and finally have a new site to share. I would love to have some feedback on my consulting website as I continue to build out my portfolio.

    Hi @silentprogressional,

Congratulations on launching your website. Your website has a nice clean UI.

    Here are a few suggestions:

    • First-time users spend very less time on your website, they are unlikely to click links, therefore I suggest you keep all the content on the main page and they can just scroll through all the information. (sample: http://bit.ly/2Sh59Gq)

    • About page:
      a. Include a nice picture of yours, e.g. A picture when you go for an interview (Nice groomed image of yourself)
      b. Include an image for each type of solution, its easier to communicate and looks great

I think clarity is the biggest issue with the site right now. There is nothing on the page that tells a visitor what the site is about or why he or she should care?

I would come over up with a value proposition to lead with. Consider who your target audience is, the benefits of what you’re offering, what makes you different from other options, and how all aligns.

You can use the five second test to determine if your messaging is clear enough. Given attention spans these days, you may want to even make it a three second test.

The design is nice. I would choose a color for the buttons that has more contrast with the background, though. You really want those to stand out, since that’s what you want people to do.

    Best of luck.

Thanks, I appreciate your thought - you've got an eye. 🙌

Some context: I've trained a handful of my friends to build six-figure consulting practices.

As @falcon007 mentioned, it should be one page.

Here's how I would lay it out:
-be clear about the problem you solve and who you solve it for
-add credibility statements immediately? who says you're a magician at what you do?
-explain briefly how you are do it?
-Increase the call to action button and repeat it through the page

Feel free to lift my format (https://duggal.io)

As a sidebar: My website simply acts as a way for people to validate I'm real. For the first 16 months of my consulting practice I had no website. I did find updating my LinkedIn helped so I made that match the website.

The biggest driver of business was sending out a monthly email to my friends and referrals came in like crazy. Wish you the best of luck Nate!

Thanks man! Great feedback, going to be implementing a few changes in the coming days based on the most common comments. I agree - I'm considering that most viewers of the page are going to be driven there based on a link or some other thing that I'm causing to happen. At least for a while!

Off to a good start! My points of feedback are:

    • Would be good to know what sorts of business or it services you provide on the homepage, rather than having to click through.
    • A testimonial is always good
    • The Send a Message widget overlaps the Contact button in the footer

Thanks man! I'm trying to be pragmatic and not spend 50 years tweaking things on design end - so much to learn still!

Do you think there's any benefit to keeping the minimal aesthetic if the viewer of this site will already be "warm" in the sense that they are on this site by some sphere of connection other than an advertisement? Being referred by another link, video, platform?

Hard to say to be honest. Still seems like a bit of a missed opportunity to not make it as crystal clear what you provide as quickly as possible. Even a sentence like "I help businesses scale with minimum technology spend" or something along those lines at the top.

Also - I would argue that the design isn't minimal and instead perhaps you have a few too many items when you land on the page that might distract the user from clicking through to access your services. For example, I picked up my phone to look at Strava when I first landed on your page then headed over to Twitter. I wouldn't personally want to give people that many other things they can do besides get in touch with me or learn more about what I can do for them.

        Hope that helps 😀

BOOM - yeah like sending folks down some other rabbit hole. I'm trying to do a little too much it seems.

Congratulations! My only concern is that "blackrock" being in the name might cause issues for you down the line, considering that it's the name of the largest financial firm in the world.

    Good luck!

haha, yeah I've thought about that. I'm not particularly attached.

      Thanks!

Hey Nate. Good job on building the website. It's a bit unclear how you want the user to interact with the website. There are so many sections, and it makes it a bit difficult to get all the needed information.
In case you’re still looking for more feedback, I’ll be more than happy to give you my detailed thoughts.

Me and my partner will be giving personal real-time feedback in a video chat for this whole week to help other founders.
Check out http://flounders.io/ for the details.
    Hope to see you there.

P.S.: Anyone who wants to get feedback is also welcomed 👍

    Have a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcvTGK3kO10&t=2s

The goal of your website is to convert visitors to clients. It doesn't do that at the moment.

Also I built https://sumit.versoly.com/ for SaaS companies but I think it can be useful for you.

Thanks for the feedback and the links! I agree the CTA could be a bit stronger, have a more direct booking / consulting result by proving links, and telling the viewer more benefits of working together.
