Launched my first Chrome extension on Product Hunt - Here's what I learned

Hey IH! 👋

Just launched Claude Outline on Product Hunt yesterday and wanted to share the journey with fellow indie hackers.

What is it:
A Chrome extension that adds navigation + export to Claude.ai conversations. Think of it as solving the "endless scrolling" problem for Claude users.

The Numbers (24 hours):

  • Chrome installs: 3
  • Revenue: $0 (free during beta)
  • Time invested: ~ over 3 weeks

What Worked:

  1. Simple landing page with clear value prop
  2. Launched on Tuesday 12:01 AM PST - Peak traffic time

What Didn't Work:

  1. Initial tagline was too technical - Had to simplify 3 times
  2. Forgot to prepare demo GIF - Lost a lot of engagement
  3. Didn't email beta users in advance - Missed easy upvotes

Current Challenge:
Figuring out pricing model. Thinking:

  • Free: Core navigation (forever)
  • Pro: Unlimited exports ($3.99/mo)

Does this make sense? Or should I go freemium differently?

Happy to answer any questions about building Chrome extensions, Product Hunt launches, or anything else!

Congrats on shipping and sharing the learnings. A few thoughts:

    On pricing:
$3.99/mo for unlimited exports makes sense, but "unlimited" at that price point can attract heavy users who churn quickly. Consider:

    • Usage-based cap (e.g., 50 exports/mo) to filter serious users
    • Lifetime deal early on ($29-39) to fund development and get committed feedback

    On the launch:
The "no demo GIF" and "didn't email beta users" learnings are gold. For Chrome extensions, a 15-sec GIF showing the before/after is often the difference between a scroll-past and an install.

    A question:
What's your distribution plan post-PH? Claude power users hang out in specific places (r/ClaudeAI, Twitter/X #claudeai threads). Are you planning to embed yourself there, or focus on organic Chrome Web Store discovery?

Good luck with the next phase!

Thanks so much for your thoughtful feedback and advice! I really appreciate you taking the time to share your insights on pricing, launch strategy, and distribution. The usage‑based cap and lifetime deal ideas make a lot of sense

Thanks again for your support! It means a lot to get feedback from experienced indie hackers.
