Launched my first newsletter two weeks ago and have ~200 subscribers.

Hey everyone 👋🏾,

Just jotting down some of my initial thoughts on how I set up my first free newsletter — https://frontendfresh.com/.

Background: I'm a senior front-end engineer by trade and I've published some larger learning material before that has done well (http://newline.co/vue and newline.co/tinyhouse). I was toying with the idea of producing another large-scale product but felt more inclined to produce smaller educational material on a more frequent basis which led me to spin up the Frontend Fresh newsletter.

A lot of the front-end/software engineering newsletters I've come across are either very technology specific (e.g. "The [] React Newsletter") or are more aggregator-focused (e.g. "This week in JavaScript News"). My goal is to produce a newsletter that educates readers on specific topics within the front-end engineering space weekly with exercises, tutorials, running code samples, career tips, etc.

I built the newsletter with Buttondown (https://buttondown.email/) and apart from a few issues I came across, it's a great tool to get started with a newsletter.

Some things I need to do better:

• Promoting the content I produce weekly. Right now, I send out tweets intermittently (https://twitter.com/djirdehh) and cross-post articles on Medium, Hashnode, Dev.TO, etc. I've just started doing this so will see how traction goes for the next little bit. I need to think about compiling the content in a way that is useful to also post on Reddit and Hackernews as well.

• Gathering more user feedback on what topics/exercises users are interested in learning about.
