2 weeks ago, I launched a newsletter that sits on top of a news app that I've been building for a few months. The goal for the newsletter mirrors the motivation behind my app, which is to give users a much faster and easier way to stay informed. The newsletter, in particular, is meant to reach a broader audience since it has such low barriers to entry.
My launch primarily consisted of a Linkedin post, which got me around 50 subscribers. ~15 others came from direct signups, which I assume were from word of mouth or some other indirect channel. The rest were friends that signed up before the post.
Currently, I have a 72% open rate and 14.7% CTR. I gather that these numbers are high, but this is probably due to the fact that my audience so far is small and largely consists of people in my network.
** What's gone well **
Setting up the newsletter was a pretty smooth experience. I spent a day researching the different platforms and settled on Beehiiv, which I have been very happy with. They are a very new company started by the people that set up the software/infra at Morning Brew.
Feedback has been good so far, but now comes the hard part of growing.
** What hasn't gone well **
Last week, there was some issue on the Beehiiv backend that caused me to be locked out of my account for 2-3 days. Although customer support was very helpful during the time, it was pretty tough not being able to send out the posts. I posted again today and didn't see any noticeable consequences from the gap in coverage, so probably not a big deal. Since they're so young, I'm not super bothered by the incident - just growing pains at a new startup.
Let me know if you have feedback!
That's awesome Stuart!!
How is your experience with Beehiv? Analytics and editor are good?
