Hey Indiehackers 👋
After a lot of preparation and setting up flows, our campaign is now live on AppSumo! I have read here on Indiehackers that someone made $160k dollars in just about two weeks, so I'm excited to see how well our campaign will do.
Here's our campaign: https://appsumo.com/themesberg/
What do you think about AppSumo? Do you have any experience purchasing or launching a product there?
Congrats! AppSumo can be a good way to get traction. Most deals on there tend to max out at $49, so I’m wondering if you’ll get a response at $99. Something to keep an eye on. Being on AppSumo is not about making money, it is about getting early adopters and actionable feedback - it builds momentum.
One thing many people miss now is that appsumo recently announced a second tier - marketplace.
Can see a marketplace banner over your listing so sure you are in that section.
If I search your product name on appsumo, I find it.
If I go to home page and scroll through all deals to the end, it's not there.
If I search for marketplace section, can't find it.
Key difference is that appsumo heavily promotes it's primary deals. They spend lots on ads. Thats how the right product can make $160k (of which 40% goes to ads, 30% to appsumo and 30% to founder).
Marketplace they don't promote. It seems you can't even find them.
You are expected to promote your listing yourself to get any traction.
If you do gain traction, you might get promoted to home page. This is appsumos new way of getting other people to pay for and validate their own lead generation.
It used to be appsumo released around 1 app per week, then was great.
Then they flooded homepage with active apps - maybe good choice for buyers but dilutes reward for sellers.
Marketplace I feel could be a step too far, but expect they have the data showing it is helping their bottom line, even if it hurts the creators that made their platform in the first place.
Also, sellers set prices on marketplace and commonly choose higher than the rates buyers are used to.
If the top tier products are $49-59 for LTD, why will this audience choose a hidden product without traction for double that?
Not wanting to kill your hopes, wish you all the best, whether that is on appsumo or elsewhere. But don't get your hopes up until the sales start flooding in, which may require extra effort from your end.
What types of flows did you set up and what tools are you using?
