[Milestone] Launched on Product Hunt 5 days ago.
Quick context: I built protein-payment.com — a multilingual
content site for India's $1.3B protein market. 227 pages, 18
languages, all on Cloudflare Pages + Workers AI. MIT open source.
What I expected from PH:
What actually happened (5 days in):
The 4 PH comments I got taught me:
The surprising one: before launch, I assumed my low traffic
meant "not enough marketing." After launch, the data showed
the problem was elsewhere — most impressions were SEO bots
faking searches. Installed robots.txt, blocked 80% of bot
traffic, and my "real user %" jumped from 5% to 35% in 3 days.
Net: more clarity in 5 days post-launch than 3.5 months
building.
What's next: 1-2 weeks of iterating on the 4 comments'
feedback. If conversion improves, double down. If not,
pivot the translation tech into a B2B product.
The strongest signal is that four substantive comments produced more useful learning than the launch metrics. The bigger discovery is that the traffic problem was partly measurement quality, not simply distribution.
This reframe is sharper than what I wrote in the post —
"measurement quality > distribution" deserves to be the
headline takeaway.
The "fix" for me right now is two specific things:
Until then I have "clicks" but no "conversions" — same
problem the commenter called out.
When impressions >> sessions, that's SEO bot traffic,
not "low reach."
A new Milestone in 30 days will likely have different
numbers, not because I "grew more" but because the
measurement is cleaner.
Curious: do you have a standard for your own projects on
when "low numbers" is a measurement problem vs a real
distribution problem? That feels like a heuristic worth
codifying.
That’s an interesting distinction. I’d be interested in continuing the conversation privately. What’s the best email to reach you at?
