Hey Indie Hackers,
I launched sendfiles.online on product hunt (https://www.producthunt.com/posts/sendfiles-online-2) for the second time a couple days ago. The first time was almost two years ago back in May 2020. It was just a simple drag and drop send files site then.
Since then I felt it needed to get a bit better, and also find a way to cover it's web hosting fees. So I made it better. I added encryption. Browser side. And launched it again on Product Hunt.
It did not make top 10, but got 50 upvotes.
I learned some cool things.
Right before launch, I put it on r/programming with the write up on how the file encryption was working (https://sendfiles.online/file-encryption/), and thankfully some one helped out significantly, so it became even more secure before launch and I updated the text and code.
Then on launch day I think the GIF I used on the product page, although cool, was not colorful enough to draw attention.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the write up on "how the encryption works", so I think writing more about the code helps the users understand the product better.
One thing that I noticed when I was launching was that it sometimes felt long having to type in the entire domain name, so I also made a link shortener for the links called SFO.to
Last, and I think best of all, I got my first purchase! 🥳
Let me know if you have any questions.
