Launched our first affiliate Speed Run challenge today at Hunch

$1,000 prize pool, all cash, 31 days. Five prize buckets, including a random drawing, so even small affiliates have a shot.

Built it because I noticed our evergreen affiliate program had a long tail of affiliates who signed up, shared once, and went dormant. A time-boxed challenge with a leaderboard creates urgency and re-engagement.

    The diagnosis is sharp, the "signed up, shared once, went dormant" long tail is the classic affiliate problem, and a time-boxed leaderboard is a reasonable lever. But worth pressure-testing one thing before you judge results: the dormant affiliates might be dormant for a reason a prize won't fix.

    Affiliates share once and stop usually because the first share didn't convert, so the effort felt unrewarded. A leaderboard adds urgency, but if the underlying issue is that their audience isn't a fit for the product or the offer doesn't land, a $1,000 pool motivates them to try again and fail again, then churn harder. The prize re-engages effort, not effectiveness.

    The affiliates to watch aren't the leaderboard top (already motivated), it's the middle: people who share twice, get one conversion, and stop. That's where a challenge either activates a real dormant asset or just confirms the offer doesn't convert for them. The random-drawing bucket is smart for exactly this, it keeps small affiliates in without needing them to win.

    What's your baseline for what a "share" actually converts at? If challenge shares convert similar to normal ones, it's a real win. If they spike in volume but crater in conversion, the urgency pulled low-quality shares. That ratio is the real signal, not total leaderboard activity.

    I signed up today to try the affiliate flow and overall it was a smooth experience. I especially like that the dashboard immediately highlights the active Speed Run challenge instead of making me hunt for it.
    I did run into a couple of small issues during signup, though. The password field says "At least 8 characters", but after submitting I got an error saying it actually requires 12 characters. After correcting the password I also couldn't re-run the Cloudflare verification without refreshing the page.

    Other than that, onboarding felt straightforward. Congrats on the launch!

      Great to hear and apologies for the little issues. Just a heads up, you need to verify your email address. I noticed you havent done that yet

        One additional UX thought: after opening my referral link, I wasn't sure whether referrals were actually being tracked because it looked exactly like the normal homepage. A small confirmation that the referral is active would make the flow much clearer for new affiliates.
